Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Symptom Scores" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a clinician's progress chart shared with a client. Calm, clear and hopeful: steady slate bars stepping down through severity bands from rose to mint.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FAF8F4 (pale off-white). Bars: #4F5D75 (calm slate). Title and value ink #2B3140, secondary text #6F7280, footer rule #E4E0D8.
- Severity bands, top to bottom: #F6D9DC (rose, severe), #F9E3DC (blush), #FBEEDB (apricot cream), #EEF2DE (pale olive), #DCF0E4 (mint, minimal), separated by 1.5px white lines.
- Band names use matching deeper inks: #A0505C, #A26048, #95723A, #6C7A3E, #3F7F5C.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Noto Serif Display 500, 34px, #2B3140 for the title, stating the change ("Symptom score fell from 21 to 5 over twelve sessions").
- Karla for everything else: subtitle 15px #6F7280 with the instrument, range and cadence; value labels 14px 700 #2B3140; axis numbers 13px; band names 13px 700 lowercase in the band ink with their range beneath in 11.5px at 75% opacity; axis title 12px 700 with 1.6px letter-spacing; footer 12px and a 12.5px 700 slate summary right.

Layout:
- 56px margins, title at y 78, subtitle at 110. Plot from x 96 to 760, y 170 to 500.
- The bands run from the plot's left edge past the plot to x 910; band names sit at x 776, vertically centered in each band.
- Footer rule at 552, source left and a computed summary ("16-point drop, 76% lower than session 1") right at 576.

Axes and grid:
- No gridlines: the band edges are the grid. Y numbers every 5 right-aligned 12px left of the plot.
- A 1.2px #2B3140 baseline; session numbers centered 22px below it and a small spaced "Session" axis title under those.

Marks:
- Bar chart: one slate bar per session, 30px wide (about 55% of the band), top corners rounded 4px, starting at zero. Value label centered 9px above each bar.
- Line chart: a 3px #4F5D75 line with straight segments and 5px slate dots with a 2px #FAF8F4 ring, over the same bands; label the first and last points.

Avoid: red/green traffic-light saturation, alarming colors, gradients on bars, 3D, legends (bands are named in place), and gridlines on top of the bands.

When you're done, render the chart and check that band boundaries match the instrument's cutoffs, band names are inside their bands, the bars start at zero and the summary numbers are arithmetically right.
