Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Supergraphic" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a 1970s supergraphic painted along an airport concourse wall. Warm plaster, earthy harvest colors, every series a bold painted stripe that turns crisp mitered corners, confident and a little playful but still exact.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Wall (whole canvas): #F3EAD8.
- Ink for title, direct labels, baseline and year numerals: #4A2C1A (chocolate brown).
- Series hues, each drawn as three stepped stripes (dark, mid, light):
  - Series 1 (the lead or highlighted series): #9A3F10, #D2601A (burnt orange), #EE9352.
  - Series 2: #A87613, #E3A52B (harvest gold), #F1CB72.
  - Series 3: #4E5A1B, #7A8B2E (avocado), #AAB65E.
- Muted text (subtitle, axis labels, source): #8A6E55. Gridlines: #E2D4BA.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Headline: Monoton, 76px, #4A2C1A, 4px letter-spacing, uppercase, one short word or phrase (for example "TAKEOFF").
- Everything else in Josefin Sans. Finding line under the headline 700 19px brown; subtitle (measure, unit, period) 400 15px #8A6E55; direct series names 700 17px brown with the end value below in 600 15px in the series' dark or mid color; y labels 600 14px #8A6E55; oversized year numerals 700 38px brown with 1px letter-spacing; source 400 12px.

Layout:
- Headline baseline about y 104 at x 52, finding line at y 142, subtitle at y 166.
- Plot from x 104 to 744, y 196 (top) to 470 (baseline). The right 180px holds the direct labels, left aligned 34px past the plot.
- The oversized year numerals sit 52px below the baseline, centered on every fifth year. Source bottom right.

Axes and grid:
- Only three horizontal gridlines, 1.5px #E2D4BA, labelled at the left outside the plot, right aligned 14px before it ("1M", "2M", "3M").
- A 2.5px brown baseline with round caps; ticks hang below it: 12px long, 2.5px wide on the labelled years, 6px long, 1.5px wide on the others. No y-axis line.

Marks:
- Line chart: each series is a ribbon of three parallel stripes (dark on one side, mid in the middle, light on the other) following straight segments between the points, offset along the segment normals with mitered joins so the stripes stay parallel through every bend. Lead ribbon: stripes 11px wide with 2px gaps (37px total). Other ribbons: 7px stripes, 1.5px gaps (24px total). The gaps are wall colored and each ribbon first lays down a wall-colored underlay, so a ribbon crossing another shows clean gaps. Both ribbon ends are rounded as a whole (a round cap across all three stripes, done with a mask of the centerline stroked at the full ribbon width). Draw the lead ribbon last, on top.
- Signature: the lead ribbon sweeps in horizontally from beyond the left edge of the canvas at the height of its first value and only then starts bending with the data, like a wall stripe running along the corridor into the chart.
- Bar chart: vertical bars as the same three-stripe ribbons standing upright (three 11px vertical stripes with 2px wall gaps, dark to light left to right), rounded top across all three stripes, flat on the baseline, one series hue per category group; the lead bar in the orange stripes, the rest in gold and avocado. Values in Josefin Sans 700 above the bars.

Labels and annotation:
- No legend: series names and end values sit at the right end of each ribbon, vertically centered on its last point.

Avoid: smoothed curves (corners must be mitered), gradients, shadows, thin lines, more than one headline font, cool colors, and gridlines drawn over the ribbons.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the three stripes stay parallel and evenly spaced through every corner, the ribbon ends are rounded across all three stripes, the lead ribbon enters from the left edge, and the Monoton headline is short enough to read at thumbnail size.
