Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Storyboard" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a production storyboard pinned to the wall of a writers' room. A slate header, a grid of rounded panels outlined in graphite, typed captions under each panel and a director's handwritten notes in pencil. Tidy and professional, with one red character to follow.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Sheet: #F6F5F1 (off-white). Panel interiors and the slate header box: #FFFFFF.
- Graphite: #3B3D40 for panel outlines, the slate stripes, panel number tabs, titles, captions and ordinary names.
- Bars: #5B7690 (muted steel blue) for every ordinary series.
- Highlight: #D0473A (signal red) for the one character or category the story is about, its name, its value labels and the red handwritten note.
- Secondary text: #76787B. Faint gridlines: #DDDBD4.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Work Sans: title 700 24px; subtitle 400 15px #76787B; slate field keys 600 10px uppercase with 1.5px letter-spacing; slate values 600 12px; panel number 700 14px white; names 500 12px (700 red for the highlight); value labels 500 11px (700 red for the highlight); axis ticks 400 10px; captions 600 13px; source 12px.
- Caveat for handwritten director notes: 700 21px in red for the note about the highlight, 500 20px graphite for secondary notes. Lowercase, short.

Layout:
- 40px side margins. A slate header box across the top (x 40 to 920, y 24 to 116), 8px corner radius, 1.5px graphite outline, white fill. Its left 140px is a clapper: diagonal graphite stripes about 12px wide on a 22px pitch, clipped to the box, then a 1.5px vertical graphite rule. Title and subtitle to the right of it. The right 180px is a field block split off by a 1px #DDDBD4 rule, with three rows: "PROD." with the production name, "BOARD", "DATE", keys left and values right-aligned.
- Small multiples: six panels in a 3 by 2 grid, each about 262 x 160 px with 47px gutters, starting at y 150 and y 360. Panel outline 1.6px graphite, 10px corner radius, white fill.
- A corner tab at each panel's top left: a 34 x 28 px graphite shape with the panel's outer corner rounded 10px and its inner lower right corner rounded 10px, holding the panel number in white.
- A typed caption 22px below each panel, left-aligned: "EP 4: the reveal" style (label, colon, short lowercase description).
- Hand-drawn arrows in each horizontal gutter pointing to the next panel: a slightly wavy 28px 1.6px graphite stroke with an open chevron head, round caps.

Axes and grid:
- Shared axes in every panel: the same scale and same category order, so panels compare directly.
- Axis ticks inside the top of each panel in 10px #76787B; faint 1px #DDDBD4 gridlines at each tick; a 1px graphite baseline at zero.

Marks:
- Bar chart: horizontal bars 15px tall on a 23px row pitch, 2px corner radius, steel blue; the highlight row in red. Category names right-aligned just left of the baseline; value labels 5px past each bar end.
- Line chart: the same six-panel board, each panel a small line chart with a 2px steel blue line, the highlighted series 2.5px red with a 3.5px dot on its last point and its value label; shared y scale across panels.

Labels and annotation:
- One red Caveat note placed in a panel's empty space ("her big turn") with a curved 1.5px red hand-drawn arrow pointing at the key bar or point. At most one graphite Caveat note elsewhere, right-aligned on a caption line.
- Footer at y 578: "Source: ..." on the left and a one-line key on the right ("Bars: minutes on screen. Red: Mara.") in 12px #76787B.

Avoid: drop shadows, gradients, photographic textures, more than one highlight color, different scales per panel, and handwriting for anything except notes.

When you're done, render the chart and check that all panels share one scale, the red highlight appears in every panel on the same row, captions and notes don't collide, and the title fits left of the slate field block.
