Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Stitch Count" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a leathercrafter's spec sheet stamped into dark oxblood hide. Rich, hand-made and orderly, with every bar edged in real saddle stitching.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #2B1414 (oxblood hide) with a faint fractal noise grain (base frequency 0.7, 2 octaves, red-brown at 6% alpha) and a scatter of tiny black pores at 18% opacity.
- Bars: #8E3A3F (burgundy), with a vertical sheen gradient from 12% white at the top to clear at the middle to 18% black at the bottom.
- Stitching and the per-inch column: #EAD9BC (saddle thread). Primary text: #F3E6D0 (cream). Secondary text: #B39A8A. Row rules and gridlines: #4A2626.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Playfair Display 700, 30px, #F3E6D0 for the title, sentence case, stating the finding. Playfair Display 700 19px for the right-hand per-inch numbers in #EAD9BC.
- Karla for everything else: subtitle 16px 400 #B39A8A; column headers 700 11px uppercase with 1.8px letter-spacing; row labels 500 16px cream; bar-end totals 700 16px cream; axis ticks 12px; source 12px.

Layout:
- A small awl icon at the left of the title (a tan #B5835A mushroom handle, a thread-colored ferrule, a tapered pale steel #CFC7BD blade, tilted up about 35 degrees), the title starting 52px from the margin at baseline 66, subtitle aligned under it at 94.
- Row labels at x 64; bars start at x 214 and scale to x 736 at the axis maximum; a right-aligned "PER INCH" column at x 896.
- Column headers ("TOTAL STITCHES" above the bars, "PER INCH" above the right column) 14px above a 1px #4A2626 header rule. Rows 46px tall with 28px bars and 0.6px row rules. Axis tick labels below the last row. Source and a method note at y 568.

Axes and grid:
- Vertical dashed gridlines (0.8px #4A2626, dash 2 4) at round values behind the bars, tick labels centered under the last row. A 1px #B39A8A zero line at the bar start.

Marks:
- Bar chart: horizontal bars sorted descending, starting at zero, corner radius 3, burgundy with the sheen gradient. Inside each bar a 1.2px #EAD9BC dashed stitch (dash 4 3) inset 5px on all sides with corner radius 1.5; bars too short for the loop get a single dashed running line instead. The total prints 10px past the bar end.
- Line chart: a 4px burgundy line with a 1.2px #EAD9BC dashed stitch line running along its center, small burgundy points with thread-colored rings, and the final value in cream Karla 700.
- A second measure of a different unit (here stitches per inch) never gets its own axis: print it as a right-aligned number column.

Avoid: bright reds, glossy bevels, drop shadows, gridlines above the bars, and a stitch loop that touches the bar edge.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the stitching is evenly inset on every bar, the tiniest bar still reads, the per-inch column aligns on the right, and the ratio in the title matches the data.
