Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Status Share" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a figure from a regional red list or conservation status assessment. Clean, sober and scientific, with an ordered threat scale that carries all the color.

Colors (use these exact values), in scale order:
- Data deficient: #D9D9D3 (light gray).
- Least concern: #7FAA7A (sage green).
- Near threatened: #EBD55C (yellow).
- Vulnerable: #EB8D3A (orange).
- Endangered: #C63C28 (red).
- Critically endangered: #86162A (deep crimson), also the eyebrow color and the highlighted leading share.
- Background #FFFFFF; ink #1F2328; secondary text #666B72; footer rule #E3E5E8.
- Numbers inside segments: #FFFFFF on sage, red and crimson; dark tints (#4A4A46 on gray, #4A4214 on yellow, #4A2508 on orange).

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Public Sans throughout: eyebrow 12px 700 uppercase with 1.8px letter-spacing in crimson; title 27px 700 with -0.4px letter-spacing, stating the finding; subtitle 15px 400 #666B72 naming measure, unit and n; category labels 14px 600; "n = 41" counts 11.5px 400 muted, right-aligned before the bars; legend labels 10.5px 600; in-segment numbers 11px 600; threatened share 16px 800; source 12px.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow y 58, title y 94, subtitle y 120.
- A compact scale legend across the top (y 152) aligned with the bars: six equal 8px-tall swatches in scale order with a 2px gap, labels 24px below each swatch's left edge, "Least to most at risk" right-aligned in muted text to its left, and a 1.2px ink bracket over the last three swatches captioned "THREATENED" (10.5px 700, 1.5px letter-spacing).
- Bars from x 244 to 780, one row per category every 35px, bar height 20px. The threatened share column starts at x 802 under a "Threatened" 12px 700 header. Footer rule at y 540 with a definition note at left and the source at right.

Axes and grid:
- No axes and no gridlines: every bar spans 0 to 100%. Sort rows by the threatened share, highest first.

Marks:
- Bar chart: 100% stacked horizontal bars, segments in scale order left to right (data deficient, least concern, near threatened, vulnerable, endangered, critically endangered), square-cornered, separated by 1.5px white gaps. Print the rounded percent centered in any segment at least 30px wide.
- Threatened bracket: a 1px ink line 6px above each bar from the start of the vulnerable segment to the bar's right end, dropping down the right edge to mid-bar and running 14px right to the share label ("56%"). The top row's share is in crimson; the rest in ink.
- Line chart: one 2.5px line per status category (share over time), each in its scale color, with the threatened total as a 3px ink line; direct labels at the right end, and the same top legend and bracket.

Avoid: rainbow or arbitrary colors, gradients, 3D, rounded bars, a separate boxed legend, out-of-order categories.

When you're done, render the chart and check that each bar sums to 100%, the bracketed share equals vulnerable + endangered + critically endangered, legend labels don't touch each other and category names don't collide with the n counts.
