Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Starter Rise" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a page from an artisan bakery's notebook. Warm, soft and floury: grain-toned curves, a gentle serif headline and friendly rounded labels, nothing sharp or corporate.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FCFAF5. A 10px flour-toned strip #EFE7D6 along the top edge.
- Flour dusting: about 260 small dots (radius 0.6 to 2.4px) in #EFE7D6, scattered randomly over the page with a 0.6px Gaussian blur.
- Series, in order: #D4A55A (wheat), #8A5A3B (rye brown), #9C9A8E (spelt gray). For text, use darker label tints of the light colors: wheat labels #A87A2E, spelt labels #6E6C61, rye labels #8A5A3B.
- Highlight band (target window): #F3E6C4 at 80% opacity, its label #B08642.
- Ink: #3B2F26. Muted text: #857868. Gridlines: #E8E0CF; zero line #BFB3A0 (1.2px).

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Fraunces for the title (600, 34px, #3B2F26, stating the finding) and an italic footnote at the bottom right (400 italic, 13px, muted).
- Nunito for everything else: eyebrow 11.5px 800 uppercase with 2.2px letter-spacing in #B08642; subtitle 15px 400 muted; tick labels 12.5px 600 muted; peak labels 13px with the time in 800 and the value in 600; end labels 14px with the name in 800 and the value in 600; band label 10.5px 800 uppercase with 1.6px letter-spacing.

Layout:
- 56px left margin. Eyebrow at y 58, title at 100, subtitle at 128.
- Plot from x 88 to 840, y 176 to 500, leaving room at the right for end labels. Footer at y 578: "Source: ..." left in Nunito 12px, the italic note right.

Axes and grid:
- No axis lines. Horizontal gridlines every step in #E8E0CF (1px), y labels right-aligned 12px left of the plot, the unit only on the top label ("140%").
- x labels centered 24px below the zero line; the first may be a word ("Fed"). Axis title 48px below in 12.5px muted.

Marks:
- Line chart: monotone smooth curves (no overshoot), 3.4px, round caps. Mark each series' peak with a ring (r 7, page fill, 2.6px stroke in the series color) and label it with time and value, placed so it never touches another line. End labels to the right of the last point with simple vertical dodging (at least 20px apart).
- Bar chart: soft bars in the same three grain colors with 6px rounded top corners, about 60% of the band, from a zero baseline; value labels in Nunito 13px 800 above, tinted with the label colors. Group bars for multiple series with 4px gaps.
- A pale horizontal band marks the target range behind the marks, labelled inside at its top left.

Avoid: dark backgrounds, heavy gridlines, sharp markers, a boxed legend (label directly), gradients on the marks, and saturated colors.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the flour dots stay faint behind everything, peak and end labels never collide with lines or each other, and the light wheat and spelt labels use their darker tints.
