Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Stamp Sheet" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a mint sheet of definitive postage stamps laid out on white paper. Each category becomes one perforated stamp printed in a classic engraved ink, so the chart reads as a small-multiples grid with the precision of banknote engraving.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Sheet paper and stamp paper: #FFFFFF. Perforation gutters and holes: #E4DED0 (warm gray).
- Engraved inks, assigned by column so each color repeats down the sheet: carmine #B0243A, ultramarine #2B3F9E, olive #5F6E22, violet #6A3D8F, sepia #7A4A26.
- Title ink: #2A2622. Secondary text: #7A7166.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Playfair Display 700 for the title (30px #2A2622, stating the finding) and for the denominations (26px in the stamp's ink, keep the default oldstyle figures).
- Lato for everything else: subtitle 15px 400 #7A7166 giving measure, unit, period and that the scale is shared; the small country word in each stamp's top right corner 9px 700 uppercase with 1.6px letter-spacing; category names 10.5px 700 uppercase with 0.8px letter-spacing in the stamp's ink; the sheet margin inscription 11px 700 uppercase with 1.8px letter-spacing; source 12px italic.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Title at y 58, subtitle at y 88.
- The sheet block starts at y 128: a #E4DED0 rectangle holding a grid of stamps (5 columns x 2 rows at 10 categories, each cell about 170 x 196 px). Each stamp is a white rectangle inset 3px from its cell with perforation holes (3px radius circles in #E4DED0) every 10px along all four edges, centered on the edge, so the outline scallops like a torn-off stamp.
- Inside each stamp an engraved frame inset 10px: a 2px outer rule and a 0.8px inner rule 4px inside it, both in the stamp's ink.
- Sheet margin along the bottom edge, 34px under the block: a 13px circle holding the plate number ("1A"), then five 12px control squares in the five inks, then the inscription ("PLATE 1A · SHEET OF 10 · <ISSUER> <TOPIC> <PERIOD>"), and "Source: ..." right-aligned at the right edge.

Axes and grid:
- No axis lines or axis labels anywhere: every stamp carries its own value as the denomination.
- Inside each frame, faint scale rules at every 10 units, 0.8px in the stamp's ink at 16% opacity, and a 1.2px baseline in the ink 34px above the frame's bottom.
- Every stamp uses the same scale (0 to the rounded maximum mapped to 112px of height) so bars compare across stamps.

Marks:
- Bar chart (small multiples): one 34px wide square-cornered bar per stamp, filled with an engraving pattern (a 4 x 3 px pattern with a 1.6px solid stripe of the ink over the ink at 55% opacity, which reads as fine horizontal line engraving) and a 1.2px solid outline in the ink. Offset the bar slightly right of center so the denomination in the top left corner stays clear. Category name centered 22px below the baseline.
- Line chart (small multiples): one stamp per series, each with its own 2px line in the stamp's ink over the same scale rules, a 3px dot at each point, the latest point as a 5px dot, and the latest value as the denomination; the area under the line filled with the same engraving pattern.

Avoid: rounded corners, gradients, drop shadows, a legend, axis labels, more than five inks, sorting the stamps in anything but descending order for bars, and em dashes.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the perforations scallop evenly on every stamp edge, the tallest bar clears the denomination and the country word, all stamps share one scale, and the denominations exactly match the data.
