Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Split-Flap" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: an airport departure board. The headline and the latest readings are spelled out on mechanical split-flap tiles, and the chart sits in a matte black panel below with crisp white and yellow lines.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Board: #141518 for the canvas, with a 6px #F6C12E strip across the very top.
- Flap tile: a vertical gradient #2E2F34, #232428 (50%), #1B1C1F, 2.5px corner radius, with a drop shadow (0, 2, blur 1.2, black at 70%).
- Chart panel: #0A0A0B with a 1px #26272B outline and 6px corner radius. Gridlines #26272B.
- Series: #EDEBE4 (flap white) for the first series and #F6C12E (signal yellow) for the second. Tile characters use the same two colors.
- Muted text #8E8C84; subtitle #B9B7AE; source #6E6C66.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Big Shoulders Display 800 for every character on a flap: title tiles 34px, reading tiles 27px, line-end tags 19px, all uppercase.
- Barlow Condensed for everything else: board header 13px 600 uppercase with 2.5px letter-spacing (left in yellow, right in muted); subtitle 16px 500; reading captions 13px 600 with 2px letter-spacing; axis labels 14px 500 to 600; annotation 13px 600 uppercase with 1.5px letter-spacing; source 13px 500.

Layout:
- 40px side margins. Header line at y 40. Title tiles (30 x 46px, 4px gaps, one character each, blank tiles for spaces) at y 56 spanning the width; keep the headline short enough to fit on one row.
- Subtitle at y 132 stating measure, unit and period.
- Latest readings as the legend: for each series a 14 x 4 color bar, a caption ("TERMINAL 1 / 28 SEP"), then the value on 24 x 36 tiles (3px gaps, comma on its own tile) followed by the unit in the series color. Place the series side by side.
- Chart panel from y 236 to 548, plot area about x 100 to 852, y 262 to 500.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal 1px #26272B gridlines only, labels right-aligned 14px left of the plot ("44K"). Date labels 28px below the plot, uppercase ("15 SEP").

Marks:
- Every flap tile: the lower half overlaid with black at 16%, a 1.4px #050506 split line across the middle, a 0.8px white line at 7% just beneath it, and 2.5 x 4px dark hinge notches at the left and right ends of the split.
- Line chart: 2.5px lines with straight segments and round joins, a 4px-radius dot at each line end followed by a two-tile tag (18 x 26px) naming the series in its color. Mark the crossover or key date with a 1px dashed yellow vertical line (dash 3 on 4 off, 70% opacity) and an uppercase annotation beside it.
- Bar chart: square-cornered bars in the two series colors inside the matte panel, 55% of the band wide; each bar's value spelled on small flap tiles (18 x 26px) above it; a second series is drawn as grouped bars.

Avoid: rounded tiles beyond 2.5px, gradients on the chart panel, glows, more than two series colors, lowercase on tiles, and letting a tile's split line disappear.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the headline fits on one row of tiles, the reading tiles match the last data values, the line-end tags don't overlap, and the stated crossover date is right for the data.
