Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Spice Market" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the ledger board of an old spice stall. Charcoal ground, bars like heaps of ground pigment with a powdery grain, cream type, and thin brass rules like a weighing scale's inlay.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #1C1A18 (charcoal) for the whole canvas.
- Mark colors, one per category: #B83A24 (paprika), #8A6A3A (cumin), #D9A82E (turmeric), #7E2A35 (sumac), #E0A21B (saffron).
- Text: #EFE6D6 (cream) for names and values; #9A8F80 for origin lines, subtitle and notes.
- Rules and eyebrow: #A88A55 (brass).

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Alegreya SC 700 for the title (38px, cream, stating the finding) and the ledger label (17px, 1.5px letter-spacing, brass).
- Alegreya Sans for everything else: eyebrow 13px 500 uppercase, 2.6px letter-spacing, brass; subtitle 17px #9A8F80 with measure, unit and period; category names 21px 700 cream; origin lines 11px 500 uppercase with 1.3px letter-spacing in #9A8F80; values 20px 800 cream with the unit ("64.5 kg"); notes 15px italic #9A8F80.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow at y 56, title at y 100, subtitle at y 130.
- Rows start at y 164 at a 68px pitch. Each row: the name at the left (baseline 2px above the row's center) with its small caps origin line 20px below; the bar starting at x 290, 30px tall, centered on the row.
- A 0.6px brass hairline above the first row and under every row, full width (x 56 to 904).
- Signature ledger line after the last row: a second 0.6px brass rule 14px below the last separator (a double rule), then "WEIGHED TOTAL" in brass small caps at the left, a dotted brass leader (1.4px, dasharray 0.1 6, round caps) running right, and the total right-aligned at x 904 in 21px 800 cream.
- Source at bottom left, y 578, 13px #9A8F80.

Axes and grid:
- No axes, no gridlines, no tick labels; every bar carries its own value. Sort rows by value, largest first.

Texture:
- Powdery grain on every mark: feTurbulence fractalNoise baseFrequency 0.95, 3 octaves, mapped to a warm-white layer (RGB 1, 0.95, 0.86) whose alpha is 0.9 x noise - 0.42, composited "in" the mark and merged over it. The grain should read as fine powder, not noise, at thumbnail size.

Marks:
- Bar chart: flat horizontal bars with square left ends and a soft rounded right end (9px radius), scaled so the largest spans about 480px of a 520px track. Value 12px after the bar end. Tiny values keep a 4px minimum bar and may get a short italic note after the value.
- Line chart: 3px lines in the spice colors with round caps and a 6px powdery-textured dot at each point, each series labeled at its right end with its name in 16px 700 cream and value in 800; keep the brass hairlines as horizontal gridlines at 0.6px and the ledger total line under the plot.

Avoid: gradients, glows, shadows, 3D heaps, a legend, heavy rules (brass stays hairline), and any grain coarse enough to look like dirt.

When you're done, render the chart and check that rows are sorted, the ledger total equals the sum of the rows, the grain is visible but subtle on the darkest bar, and no value label collides with a note.
