Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Spectrometer" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the live display of a laboratory optical spectrometer. Precise and luminous: a crisp white trace on near-black, peaks tagged like instrument readings, and a visible-spectrum strip that ties the x axis to real color.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #050507.
- Trace, peak tags, readout values: #F4F6F8.
- Grid: #2A2D33. Tick labels and readout keys: #8A9099. Axis titles, minor ticks, footer: #5C626B.
- Visible-spectrum gradient (horizontal, by wavelength): 380 nm #3D0059, 410 #7B00D4, 440 #3B2BFF, 470 #0092FF, 495 #00E0C8, 520 #1EFF00, 560 #C8FF00, 580 #FFEA00, 600 #FF9A00, 630 #FF3A00, 680 #E00000, 750 #5A0000.
- Readout panel: fill #0D0F12, 1px #33373E border, status dot and label #4ADE80.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- IBM Plex Sans for the title (600, 27px, #F4F6F8, stating the finding) and subtitle (400, 15.5px, #8A9099, measure and unit).
- IBM Plex Mono for everything else: tick labels 12px (11.5px on y), peak tags 500 12px, axis titles 11px uppercase with 1.2px letter-spacing, readout 10.5 to 11px, footer 11px.

Layout:
- Title at the top left with a 56px margin, plot area from about x 84 to 904 and y 150 to 466.
- An 8px tall spectrum strip spanning the plot width, 6px below the baseline; the x ticks hang below the strip (minor every 10 nm 3px, major every 50 nm 6px) with labels under them and "WAVELENGTH (nm)" right-aligned below.
- Readout panel in the top right of the plot, about 204 x 104px with 3px radius: a green status dot and "ACQUIRING", a channel tag, a divider, then key/value rows (integration time, averages, slit, resolution) with keys left in #8A9099 and values right in 600 #F4F6F8.
- Footer: source at left, acquisition settings (range, step) at right.

Axes and grid:
- 0.7px #2A2D33 horizontal gridlines every 0.2 of normalized intensity (1px at zero) and vertical gridlines every 50 nm; y labels with one decimal; rotated "RELATIVE INTENSITY" axis title.

Marks:
- Line chart: a 1.3px #F4F6F8 trace sampled finely enough that peaks stay sharp, straight segments, round joins. Under it a soft glow copy (3px, 35% opacity, Gaussian blur 3). Fill the area beneath the trace with the same horizontal spectrum gradient at 22% opacity so each peak glows in its own color. Tag every major peak: a 1px vertical tick from 6 to 16px above the peak and the wavelength with one decimal centered 22px above it.
- Bar chart: slim 1.3px-outlined bars (no fill besides the spectrum gradient at 22% opacity, positioned by x across the plot), each bar's top edge a 1.3px #F4F6F8 line with the same glow, value tags above the tallest bars in the peak-tag style, and the spectrum strip under the axis only when the x axis is wavelength (otherwise a neutral #2A2D33 strip).

Effects:
- Filters must cover the whole canvas (userSpaceOnUse, 0 0 960 600) so the glow never clips at peaks.

Avoid: colored traces, thick lines, smoothing that rounds off the peaks, gradients anywhere except the spectrum strip and area wash, drop shadows, and cluttered labels on minor peaks.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the strongest peak reaches exactly 1.0, every tag sits centered over its peak without touching another, the spectrum strip aligns with the wavelength scale, and the glow is not clipped.
