Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Specimen Pins" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a museum specimen drawer opened under a lamp. Pale cork floor, a warm wood frame, typed specimen labels in little boxes and every bar pinned in place like a mounted insect. Curatorial, tactile and precise.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page outside the drawer: #F6F0E4. Drawer floor: #EFE3CC (pale cork) with a faint dot texture (#D9C7A6 dots r 0.7 and #D2BE9A dots r 0.5 in a 7px tile, about 50% opacity).
- Drawer frame: 12px of wood, a vertical gradient from #9A6840 to #8A5A36, with a 1px #5E3B22 inner line and a 4px #5E3B22 shadow strip at 18% opacity along the inside top edge.
- Bars: #5D6570 (muted slate). Pin shafts: #1E1B18. Pin heads: #B0362B with a 0.8px #1E1B18 outline and a tiny white highlight (r 1.2, 60% opacity) up-left.
- Label cards: #FBF7EE with a 0.8px #1E1B18 border. Secondary text: #6E6252. Pencil gridlines: #C9B48F.

Typography (Google Fonts), with lining figures in the serif (font-variant-numeric: lining-nums):
- Cormorant 600, 38px, #1E1B18 for the title, stating the finding; Cormorant italic 500, 18px, #6E6252 for the subtitle with measure, collection and total.
- Courier Prime for every label: category names 12.5px 700 uppercase (scientific names), a second line 11px 400 in #6E6252 (common names), values 14px 700, axis ticks 12px, footer 12px.

Layout:
- Title at y 58, subtitle at y 86, 48px left margin.
- The drawer frame from (40, 108) to (920, 548) with 3px corner radius; everything else sits inside the cork.
- Label cards 170 x 34 px at x 70, one per row, vertically centered on their bar. Bars start at x 262 and run to at most x 820. Rows 46px apart, bars 16px thick.
- Footer outside the drawer at y 578: "Source: ..." left and a small uppercase drawer caption right, both Courier Prime 12px #6E6252.

Axes and grid:
- No axis lines. Vertical pencil gridlines at round values (0.8px #C9B48F, dashed 2 on 4 off) from the first row to the last, with Courier ticks below ("0", "50k", "100k" ...).

Marks:
- Bar chart: horizontal square-cornered slate bars sorted largest first. At each bar's end, an entomological pin: a 1.4px #1E1B18 vertical shaft from 5px below the bar to 15px above it, a pin head circle r 4.6 on top, and a soft cast shadow (2px #7A5F3A at 28% opacity) leaning right. The value 16px right of the pin.
- Line chart: a 2px slate line with straight segments; every data point is a pin (shaft rising 15px from the point, red head on top), with the latest value in Courier Prime 700 beside the last pin. Category or period labels as the same typed boxes along the bottom edge.

Avoid: rounded bars, bright or multiple bar colors, sans-serif labels, heavy textures, 3D drawers, glossy effects and legends (label every row).

When you're done, render the chart and check that each pin sits exactly on its bar end, the label cards align in a single column, the cork texture stays faint behind the text, and the frame is even on all four sides.
