Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Species Caseload" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a modern practice-management dashboard at year end. Deep blue-gray, soft periwinkle bars and one violet leader, with a clean divider between the core business and the long tail.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #1B2230 (deep blue-gray). Bar tracks #232C3D. Divider and footer rule #3A4459.
- Top bar: #9A5CFF (violet). Other primary bars: #8FA4E8 (soft periwinkle). Secondary group bars: #5F6FA3 (muted periwinkle).
- Ink #EEF1F8; secondary group labels and values #C3CADB; secondary text #8E97AD. Eyebrow in periwinkle.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Urbanist throughout. Eyebrow 12px 700 uppercase with 2.4px letter-spacing; title 31px 800 with -0.4px letter-spacing stating the finding; subtitle 15.5px 500 #8E97AD.
- Category labels 16px (700 for the primary group, 500 for the secondary); counts 16px 800; shares 14px 500 #8E97AD; group headers 11px 700 uppercase with 2px letter-spacing; footnote 13px 500.

Layout:
- 48px side margins. Eyebrow, title, subtitle, then the bars starting about y 158.
- Labels left at x 48, bars start at x 238 and are 520px at the maximum, 26px tall at a 40px pitch, each over a full-length track.
- Group headers above each group ("COMPANION", "EXOTICS"); a 1px #3A4459 divider across the full width between the groups, with the secondary group's subtotal right aligned on its header row.
- Footer rule at y 556 with the annual total left and the source right.

Axes and grid:
- No axes or gridlines; the tracks show the scale. Sorted descending within each group.

Marks:
- Bar chart: horizontal bars with 4px rounded right ends, square at the baseline; the largest bar violet, the rest of its group periwinkle, the secondary group muted periwinkle. Count in bold 12px past the bar end followed by its share in lighter weight.
- Line chart: 2.5px periwinkle lines per category with the leader in violet at 3px and secondary-group lines in #5F6FA3 at 1.5px, labelled at their right end with value and share; keep the header and footer total.

Avoid: rainbow categorical colors, gradients, glows, pie charts, and unsorted bars.

When you're done, render the chart and check that shares are computed from the total in the footnote, the title's percentage is right, the divider sits clearly between groups, and small bars still show their labels.
