Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Speaking Minutes

DarkLine

A coral daily line and white average over a faint waveform on eggplant.

  • Average white#FFFFFF
  • Bubble lavender#B8A6D9

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Speaking Minutes" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: an audio-practice dashboard at night. Warm dark eggplant, a whisper of a voice waveform behind the data, a lively coral daily line and a steady white trend line.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background #1E1428.
- Raw series: #FB7185 (coral), with an area gradient from #FB7185 at 34% at the top to 2% at the baseline.
- Trend series (moving average): #FFFFFF.
- Event markers and waveform: #B8A6D9 (lavender).
- Secondary text #A597B8, gridlines #302342, baseline #4A3A5E, source #7E6F94, legend text #E9E1F2.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Comfortaa 700 for the title (26px, white, sentence case, stating the finding) and for end-label values (15px).
- Nunito Sans for everything else: subtitle 400 15px #A597B8; axis labels 600 13px; end-label captions 600 12px; legend 600 13px; source 400 12px.

Layout:
- 48px side margins. Title at y 62, subtitle at 92. Plot from x 88 to 820 and y 160 to 468, leaving a 100px right column for end labels. Event markers just under the baseline, date labels 48px under it. Legend at bottom left and source at bottom right, both at y 564.

Axes and grid:
- 1px #302342 gridlines at round values, labels right-aligned 14px left of the plot, the top one carrying the unit ("30 min"). A 1.5px #4A3A5E baseline. No other axis lines.

Texture:
- Behind the plot, a waveform of rounded 3px bars every 6px, centered vertically in the plot, heights varying with a slow envelope (up to about 120px), filled with #B8A6D9 at 9% opacity fading to 0% at both ends.

Marks:
- Line chart: the raw series as a smooth monotone 2.4px coral line over its gradient area. The moving average as a smooth 3px white line with a 7px eggplant halo (70% opacity) underneath so it separates from the coral. End labels: a small caption and a big value per series, pushed at least 34px apart, plus a 4.5px white dot on the trend's last point.
- Bar chart: slim coral bars (60% of the band, 3px rounded tops, 85% opacity) with the white moving-average line drawn over them and the same event markers.
- Events: a 20 x 10 lavender speech-bubble outline (1.6px stroke, eggplant fill, tail at lower left) 16px under the baseline, a faint 1px dotted lavender stem (35%) from the data point down, and a 3.5px coral dot ringed in eggplant on the point.

Avoid: neon glows, more than three hues, heavy waveform opacity that competes with the data, and legends for series that already have end labels.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the waveform stays faint behind the data, the white trend reads clearly over the coral, the end labels do not overlap, and every event bubble sits under its day.
