Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Snowmaking Log" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a night-shift operations log at a mountain resort. Dark night blue, monospaced figures, calm and factual: pale ice bars for what was done, empty dashed outlines for what could not be, a thin temperature trace in its own strip, and a running total like an odometer.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #0E1726 (night blue). Gridlines: #1D2A3F; baseline #3B4B63.
- Main bars: #A9D6E5 (pale ice blue), also the eyebrow and the running total.
- Temperature trace: #FFFFFF. Warm or failed nights and the threshold: #F4A261 (warm orange).
- Secondary text: #7F8DA3.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Karla for words: title 700 30px white stating the finding ("Guns ran on 32 of 42 nights this early season"), subtitle 16px #7F8DA3 with measure and unit, legend 13px white, the annotation 700 13px orange, source 12px.
- DM Mono for figures and log labels: eyebrow 500 12px uppercase with 1.6px letter-spacing ("VARENNE / SNOWMAKING / NIGHT LOG"), the running total 500 34px ice blue right-aligned under a "SEASON TO DATE" label (11px, 1.4px letter-spacing), axis numbers and dates 11px, panel label "OVERNIGHT LOW, °C" 11px with 1.2px letter-spacing, the peak value 500 12px white.

Layout:
- 56px margins. Eyebrow at y 44, title at y 84, subtitle at y 112; the running total top right. Legend at y 150.
- Main panel from y 186 to a baseline at y 398, x 82 to 904. A separate temperature strip from y 446 to 520 with its own small scale, and dates under it. The strip is a second panel, not a second axis on the bar chart.
- Footer: 1px #1D2A3F rule at y 552, source left, "Busiest night: 34 ML" right in DM Mono.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines only, 1px #1D2A3F, labels right-aligned 10px left of the plot, unit ("ML") above the top label. Temperature strip gridlines at −10, −5 and 0 with true minus signs, and the operating threshold as a 1px #F4A261 dashed line (4 on, 3 off) at 80% opacity labeled at its right end ("run threshold −2.5").

Marks:
- Bar chart: one bar per night, 64% of the slot, square corners, solid #A9D6E5 from zero. Nights with nothing done are an empty 1px #A9D6E5 dashed outline (2 on, 2 off, 75% opacity) drawn to the planned amount and explained in the legend ("Too warm to run (plan 24 ML)"). Label only the peak bar. Bracket a notable run of idle nights with a 1.2px orange bracket and a 13px orange label ("Warm spell, 5 nights idle") placed above the tallest nearby bars.
- Line chart: a 2px #A9D6E5 line with square joins for the main measure, a soft #A9D6E5 area at 12% under it, gaps for idle nights shown as a dashed #A9D6E5 segment at 60% opacity; the same temperature strip below.
- Temperature strip: a 1.4px white line with round joins; nights above the threshold marked with 3px-radius #F4A261 dots.

Avoid: a right-hand temperature axis on the bar panel, gradients, glows, rounded bars, bright saturated blues, and proportional figures for numbers.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the running total equals the sum of the bars, the count of nights run in the title is right, every outlined night has its temperature dot above the threshold, and the bracket label clears the bars.
