Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Snare Sweeps" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a ranger operations board on the wall of an anti-poaching station. Charcoal, tall condensed uppercase headline and numerals, earthy working colors, and patrol effort tracked in its own strip.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #181818 (charcoal). Effort strip panel: #202020.
- Series: #C0563A (rust) for the largest category, #8698AC (steel blue-gray) for the second and #D2BC90 (sand) for the third. Rust is also the title's accent bar and the peak total.
- Ink #F1EEE8; secondary text #9A9690; gridlines #2C2C2C.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Teko for the title (46px 600 uppercase, 0.5px letter-spacing, stating the finding), total labels (23px 500 ink; the peak 28px 600 rust), y tick numbers (19px muted) and the effort-strip numbers (18px ink).
- Barlow for small text: subtitle 15px 400 muted; legend and month labels 12 to 13px 600 uppercase with 1.2px letter-spacing; strip heading 11.5px 600 uppercase with 1.5px letter-spacing; source 12px.

Layout:
- A 6 x 46px rust bar at x 56 beside the title, which starts at x 76 (baseline y 78); subtitle at y 108; legend of 12px square swatches at y 132.
- Plot from x 96 to 904, y 186 to 424, month labels 24px below the baseline (the peak month in ink, others muted).
- An effort strip from y 462 to 540 across the plot width on a #202020 panel: heading with the yearly total at top left, a small line of the effort values on its own compact scale, and each value printed in Teko under its month. This is a separate panel, never a second y axis.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines 1px #2C2C2C at round values; Teko numbers right-aligned 12px left of the plot; a 1.2px ink baseline. No vertical gridlines, no y-axis line.

Marks:
- Bar chart: stacked columns 40px wide (about 60% of the band), square-cornered, largest category at the bottom, with 1.5px charcoal seams between segments. Totals 8px above each column in Teko.
- Line chart: one 2.5px line per category in its color with straight segments, square 6px markers, and the total as a 3px ink line with Teko value labels above each point; the same effort strip underneath.
- Effort strip line: 1.3px ink with small hollow circle markers (r 2.6, 1.3px stroke).

Avoid: a secondary y axis, camouflage or military textures, gradients, rounded corners, glows, bright saturated reds.

When you're done, render the chart and check that each total equals the sum of its stack, the peak month named in the title really is the largest, the headline fits within the canvas, and the effort strip values line up under the right months.
