Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Smoke Room" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a poster for a late-night jazz club. Deep midnight ground, a thin Art Deco title, one warm brass line glowing like a stage lamp, cool blue bands for the headline sets and small italic notes for the special nights.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Ground: #10101A, with a subtle radial haze to #1C1C2C near the top right.
- Data line: #D4A24C (warm brass).
- Bands: #5E7FB8 (muted blue) at 20% opacity, with a 2px top edge at 80% opacity.
- Reference line and annotation text: #EFE3C8 (cream).
- Secondary text: #8E8A9C. Gridlines: #262636.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Poiret One: title 38px with 1px letter-spacing in cream, stating the finding.
- Josefin Sans: eyebrow 600 12px uppercase with 4px letter-spacing in brass; subtitle 300 15px #8E8A9C; axis labels 12px; legend 12px cream; annotations 300 italic 13px cream; reference label 600 10.5px uppercase with 2.4px letter-spacing.

Layout:
- A double deco frame: 0.8px brass rectangle inset 20px at 55% opacity and a 0.4px one inset 26px at 40%.
- Text starts at x 48. Eyebrow at y 64, title at y 106, subtitle at y 134, legend at top right.
- Plot from x 88 to 892, y 176 to 488.

Axes and grid:
- 1px #262636 horizontal gridlines at round values, labels right-aligned 14px from the plot in #8E8A9C. A 1px #8E8A9C baseline. No vertical gridlines.

Marks:
- Line chart: a 2px #D4A24C line with round joins and a soft glow (Gaussian blur 4px merged twice under the stroke). Blue vertical bands mark recurring periods (here the Friday and Saturday two-set nights), each band spanning its days edge to edge. A dashed 1.2px cream line (6 on, 5 off, 85% opacity) marks capacity or target, labeled at its right end. Special points get a 4px circle with a ground fill and a 1.6px brass ring, and a 0.7px cream leader up to a short italic note; stagger notes on two rows when they would collide.
- Bar chart: slim bars in #D4A24C with the same soft glow, 2px top-rounded corners; highlighted periods sit on blue bands behind the bars; the dashed cream capacity line runs across; special bars carry the same italic notes.

Avoid: bright white, saturated neon, heavy fills under the line, thick gridlines, and a glow so strong it blurs the line's position.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the glow is not clipped, the italic notes do not overlap each other or the title, the bands line up with their days, and the count in the title matches the data.
