Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Sleeper Train" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the paneled corridor of a luxury night train. Deep navy lacquer, polished brass trim and rivets, warm cream lettering, a destination board at the top, and a dusty rose accent like the upholstery.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #0E1A2E (deep navy). Darker panels, the destination board and shaded periods: #08111F.
- Brass: #B8924A for the frame, ticks, axis labels, markers and board details; #D8B878 for rivet highlights.
- Primary series and main text: #EFE4CC (warm cream).
- Secondary series: #C98B8F (dusty rose).
- Secondary text: #8F97A6.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Marcellus (400) for the title (34px cream, left-aligned, stating the finding) and the highlighted value label (20px cream).
- Lato for everything else: subtitle 400 15px #8F97A6; destination board 700 13px uppercase with 4px letter-spacing in cream, with 900/700 12px brass side labels; axis labels 400 13px brass; month labels 12px uppercase with 2px letter-spacing (the highlighted month 700 cream); direct series labels 700 14px in the series color; small notes 12px; footer mark 700 11px uppercase brass with 2px letter-spacing.

Layout:
- Frame: a 1.6px brass rectangle inset 14px and a 0.6px brass rectangle at 55% opacity inset 20px, with a 4.5px brass rivet at each outer corner (a 1.4px #D8B878 highlight offset up and left).
- Destination board: a #08111F strip from x 40 to 920, y 38 to 78, with a 0.8px brass border. Inside: a brass train number on the left, the route's station names in cream spaced across the middle and separated by small 8px brass diamonds, and departure / arrival times in brass on the right, with thin brass dividers between the three zones.
- Title at y 128 and subtitle at y 156 from x 48. Plot from x 104 to 836, y 206 to 490. Direct labels to the right of the last points. A 0.8px brass rule at 50% opacity at y 540, with the source on the left and a note on the right at y 564.

Axes and grid:
- No gridlines. Instead: a 1px brass y-axis line and baseline, 8px brass ticks with labels on the left, 6px ticks under each month, and a sparse field of small brass crosses (6px, 0.9px stroke, 45% opacity) at every month and gridline intersection.
- Shade seasonal periods (here the winter timetable months) as full-height #08111F bands with a small brass uppercase label (700 10px, 2.4px letter-spacing) near their bottom.

Marks:
- Line chart: the primary series is a smooth 2.8px cream line with brass diamond markers (5.5px half-diagonal, 7.5px for the highlighted point) outlined 1.5px in navy. The secondary series is a smooth 2.2px dusty rose line dashed 7 on 4 with 3.4px round rose markers outlined in navy. Label both lines directly at their right ends in their own colors, and put the peak value in Marcellus next to its marker.
- Bar chart: slim square-cornered bars in cream (the highlighted one brass #B8924A) about 45% of the band, with a second series as dusty rose bars beside them; values in Lato 12px above the bars in their series color. Keep the brass tick field and the seasonal bands behind the bars.

Avoid: gradients, glows, full gridlines, bright or saturated colors, rounded corners, and any cream text on the brass (brass stays a line and marker color).

When you're done, render the chart and check that the destination board text doesn't collide with its dividers, both series are distinguishable by marker shape and dash as well as color, and the seasonal bands line up with the month boundaries.
