Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Skate Scores" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: an arena scoring screen at a figure skating final. Deep ice blue-black, an elegant serif headline, and precise sans figures: silver and violet segments add up, red penalties hang off the left of zero, and one gold line crowns the leader.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #0B1528. Leader row highlight: #111E36. Gridlines: #1C2A45; the zero line #3A4A68.
- First component: #D8E1E8 (pale silver). Second component: #A68BD9 (soft violet). Subtractions: #E63946 (red). Leader accent: #D4AF37 (gold), also a 3px strip across the very top of the canvas.
- Primary text: #F4F7FB. Secondary text: #8593AD. Text inside bars: #0B1528.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Playfair Display 700 for the title (34px, #F4F7FB, stating the finding, "Varga takes the free skate by 4.14 points") and the rank numerals (18px), always with lining figures (font-variant-numeric: lining-nums).
- Figtree for everything else: eyebrow 600 12px uppercase with 2.6px letter-spacing; subtitle 16px #8593AD explaining how the total is built; legend 500 13px; names 500 16px (the leader 700); team codes 600 11px with 1.4px letter-spacing in #8593AD; in-bar values 600 13px (the category best in 800); subtraction labels 700 12px red with a true minus sign; totals 800 19px right-aligned at x 904 (the leader's in gold); axis numbers 12px.

Layout:
- 56px margins. Eyebrow at y 50, title at y 94, subtitle at y 124, legend row at y 164 with a "TOTAL" column header (700 11px, 2px letter-spacing) right-aligned above the totals.
- Rows 40px apart from y 212: rank at x 62, name at x 90, team code at x 196, bars from a zero line at x 306 at 2.62px per point, totals at the right edge.
- Footer: 1px #1C2A45 rule at y 548, source left, one fact right ("Highest technical score: ...").

Axes and grid:
- Vertical gridlines every 50 points, 1px #1C2A45, with the zero line 1.5px #3A4A68; axis numbers centered under the last row. No horizontal gridlines.

Marks:
- Bar chart: horizontal stacked bars, 24px tall, square corners, sorted by total. First component #D8E1E8 then second #A68BD9, separated by a 1.5px background-colored seam, each segment labeled 10px from its left edge in dark text. Subtractions drawn to scale to the LEFT of zero in #E63946 (the same height) with the red value just left of them. Totals printed bold at the right. The leader row gets a #111E36 highlight, a 3px gold bar at its left edge and a 1.2px gold line along its bottom edge.
- Line chart: a 2.5px #D8E1E8 line for the first measure and a 2.5px #A68BD9 line for the second on the same scale, 4px-radius dots ringed 1.5px in #0B1528, penalties as small red down-ticks under the affected points with their value, the leading point ringed with a 1.5px gold circle and a thin gold vertical rule, and direct labels at the line ends instead of a legend.

Avoid: gradients, glows, rounded bars, a second gold element beyond the leader, bright saturated blues, and oldstyle figures in the serif.

When you're done, render the chart and check that each total equals first plus second minus subtractions, the subtraction segments sit left of zero at true scale, the gold marks only the leader, and the serif numerals are lining.
