Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Site Section" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a landscape architect's long-section drawing. The data sits over a lightly drawn cross-section of the ground, with the precision of a construction sheet: hatched earth, survey chainage, a title block with north arrow and scale bar.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FFFFFF.
- Data line and its markers: #1D4E6B (survey blue).
- Ground: #A58A6A for the profile line and hatching over a #EDE3D4 fill; zone labels in the ground in #7A6448.
- Water: #5C9CC4 for the water table and open water (water fill at 35% opacity).
- Trees and reeds: #7D9A6A (canopy fill at 22% opacity).
- Ink for title, stations and title block: #23303A. Secondary text: #6A7178. Grid: #D5D9DC.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Libre Baskerville 700 for the title (26px, ink, sentence case, stating the finding) and for the large section mark in the title block (26px).
- Josefin Sans for everything else: eyebrow 12px 600 uppercase with 3px letter-spacing in survey blue; subtitle 15px #6A7178 with measure, unit and extent; axis labels 13px; station labels 12px; callouts 13px 700 in survey blue with a 12px regular note; zone labels 9.5px 600 uppercase with 1.2px letter-spacing; title block captions 10px 600 uppercase with 2px letter-spacing; source 12px.

Layout:
- Title stack at top left (48px margin). Plot from x 80 to 690 and y 172 to about 432. A title block box on the right (x 724 to 912, y 164 to 550, 1.2px ink border) divided by 0.8px rules into: section mark ("A–A'" with "LOOKING N"), a north arrow (26px circle, split arrowhead half ink and half white, "N" above), a scale bar (four alternating ink/white segments of 25 m each with 0, 50 and 100 m labels, drawn at the chart's real horizontal scale), a key (line, dashed water table and a hatched swatch), and a drawing number.
- The ground section sits under the data inside the same x range: a smooth ground profile line (1.8px earth) with 45 degree hatching every 7px (0.9px lines at 55% opacity) below it down to y 506, open water where the profile dips below the water table, reeds as 1px curved strokes on the water margins and simple section trees (1.6px trunk plus an elliptical canopy outline). Label the landscape zones in small caps inside the hatched earth.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal 0.8px #D5D9DC grid lines at round values, labels left of the plot with a percent sign; no zero line (the ground takes its place).
- The x axis is a survey chainage line at y 530: 1px ink line, minor ticks every 10 units (3.5px), major ticks every 50 (7px) with a small solid inverted triangle above and labels like "0+050" below.

Marks:
- Line chart: a 2.6px survey blue monotone smooth line with round joins, white-filled station markers (r 3.6, 1.8px ring) every fifth reading, the peak as a solid 5px dot with a thin vertical leader up to a callout of value and position. A second series, if any, as a 2px dashed (6 on, 4 off) line in #7D9A6A with its own direct label.
- Bar chart: slim square-cornered bars at each station, 1px survey blue outline with a 20% survey blue fill, standing on the ground profile line rather than floating; the peak bar solid survey blue with a callout. Keep the hatched ground, chainage axis and title block exactly as for the line chart.
- Water table: a 1.4px #5C9CC4 dashed line (7 on, 4 off) with a small inverted triangle and the label "WATER TABLE" on a #EDE3D4 backing.

Avoid: gradients, drop shadows, rounded boxes, bright colors, a legend floating in the plot (use the title block key) and letting the ground illustration overpower the data line.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the data line stays clear of the trees and ground, the chainage labels line up with the ticks, the scale bar length matches the horizontal scale and nothing collides with the title block.
