Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Site Index" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a forester's growth-curve sheet from a plantation yield manual. Calm, technical and printed: pale forest paper, a family of curves graded from pale sage to near-black pine, a humanist serif title and condensed sans labels, with one measured stand read off against the curves.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Paper: #F3F1E8 for the whole canvas. No card, no border.
- Ink (title, class numerals, emphasized labels, baseline, reference line): #1F4A2E (deep pine).
- Secondary text: #6B6F5E. Gridlines: #DEDCCD.
- Graded series ramp, best to poorest (dark to light): #06301F, #0D6032, #468C36, #94B255, #D5D59C. Keep this order; the steps are spaced so neighbors stay distinguishable.
- Measured or highlighted observations: #6B3F1F (dark bark brown), with a 2px paper-colored ring.
- Eyebrow text: #468C36.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Vollkorn 600 for the title only: 36px, #1F4A2E, sentence case, stating the finding.
- Fira Sans Condensed for everything else: eyebrow 12px 600 uppercase with 2.4px letter-spacing; subtitle 16px 400 #6B6F5E naming measure, units and base; tick labels 14px #6B6F5E; axis captions 13px 500; series numerals 16px 700 #1F4A2E; series values 15px (400 #6B6F5E, or 600 #1F4A2E for the highlighted series); small caps labels 11px 600 with 1.6px letter-spacing; note text 15px; source 12px.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow at y 58, title baseline at y 104, subtitle at y 134.
- Plot area from x 88 to x 800 and y 176 to y 510, leaving a right gutter of about 100px for the end labels.
- A 1px #DEDCCD footer rule at y 570 with "Source: ..." on the left and a method note on the right, both 12px #6B6F5E.

Axes and grid:
- A full graph-paper grid: 0.8px #DEDCCD horizontal and vertical lines at every major tick. The zero baseline is 1.2px #1F4A2E.
- Y tick labels right-aligned 12px left of the plot; the unit ("m") sits above the tick column. X tick labels centered 24px below the baseline, with the axis caption right-aligned under the last tick.
- One reference line where it matters (here the base age): 1px #1F4A2E dashed 3 3 over a 6px band of fine diagonal hatching (#E9E6D8, 0.6px, 8px pitch), with an 11px 600 uppercase label beside its top.

Marks:
- Line chart: smooth monotone curves, 2.6px, round caps, one ramp color per series, drawn poorest first so the darkest sits on top; the series the finding is about is 3.6px. No legend: each curve ends in a 3px dot and is labeled at its right end with a bold numeral (the class) and a value ("SI 18 m"), with a small uppercase header ("SITE CLASS") above the label column. Give the palest curve's end dot a 0.8px #1F4A2E outline. Observations are 5.5px #6B3F1F dots with a 2px #F3F1E8 ring.
- Bar chart: square-cornered bars at about 60% of the band, colored along the same ramp by category rank (darkest for the best), with a 2px paper gap between adjacent bars, values in 14px 600 above each bar, and the same graph-paper grid behind. A highlighted category may take the #6B3F1F brown.

Labels and annotation:
- A note box for the observation: #F3F1E8 fill, 1px #6B3F1F border, a 4px solid #6B3F1F bar on its left edge, a 12px 600 uppercase brown heading with 1.6px letter-spacing and two 15px #1F4A2E lines of text; a 1px brown leader line runs from the box to the latest observation. Place it in empty space above the low curves, never over a curve.
- A one-line key for the dots just above the note box: a sample dot and 13px #6B6F5E text.

Avoid: a boxed legend, rainbow or categorical colors for ordered classes, drop shadows, gradients, rounded corners and heavy axis lines.

When you're done, render the chart and check that neighboring curves are clearly distinct, the end labels never collide (keep at least 30px between them), the note box covers no curve, and every number in the note matches the data.
