Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Shrink Watch" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a loss prevention dashboard at night. Dark slate, quiet muted series, and one hot alert color that only appears when a value breaks the limit.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #1A2026. Card chips: #212932. Ink: #E7ECF0. Secondary text: #8C98A4. Gridlines: #2C3540, baseline #3A4552.
- Series, in order: #5FB3A8 (muted teal), #D6BC82 (sand), #E07F8E (rose), #8E9BF2 (lilac).
- Alert: #FF5A36 (red-orange), used only for the threshold line, its label, and anything above it.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Schibsted Grotesk for words: eyebrow 12px 600 uppercase with 1.8px letter-spacing beside a 4px alert dot; title 26px 700, -0.3px letter-spacing, stating the finding; subtitle 15px 400 #8C98A4; chip names 14px 600; source 12px.
- Martian Mono for every figure: chip values 15px 500 in the series color, axis labels 11px, alert value labels 10.5px 500 in #FF5A36, threshold label 10.5px 500.

Layout:
- 56px margins. Eyebrow at y 48 with the period range right-aligned in mono, title at y 88, subtitle at y 114.
- A compact legend row at y 138: one 192 x 44 chip per series (radius 6, #212932) with a 3px left color bar, the name at left and the current value right-aligned, 20px between chips.
- Plot from x 88 to 880, y 228 to 500. Footer rule at y 548 with the source at left and an alert count in mono at right.

Axes and grid:
- 1px #2C3540 horizontal gridlines with percent labels in mono right-aligned 12px left of the plot; the label at the threshold is #FF5A36. Period labels every fourth step ("W5").
- Threshold: a 1px #FF5A36 dashed line (4 4) at 80% opacity, with "LIMIT 3.0%" just above its left end.

Marks:
- Line chart: straight segments, 2.2px, round joins, in the series colors. Redraw every line in #FF5A36 at 3.2px clipped to the region above the threshold, so only breaching stretches turn hot. At each point above the threshold draw an r 8 alert halo at 22% opacity, an r 3.8 alert dot with a 1.5px background-colored ring, and the value 13px above in mono.
- Bar chart: slim bars (radius 2 on top) in the series colors; the portion of any bar above the threshold is #FF5A36, with the alert dot and value on top of breaching bars and the dashed threshold across the plot.

Avoid: glows larger than the small halos, alert color on anything below the limit, bright saturated series colors, and a boxed plot frame.

When you're done, render the chart and check that only values above the threshold turn red-orange, alert labels do not collide with the threshold label, chip values match the latest data, and the breach count in the title is right.
