Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Shelf Life" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a cold-chain food safety lab report on a dark screen. Cool, technical and calm, with temperature colors running from ice to heat and the critical threshold impossible to miss.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #15191E (deep cool gray). Plot panel: #1B2027.
- Series from coldest to warmest: #8CC8F0 (ice blue), #EBD66E (pale yellow), #F0664E (warm red).
- Threshold line and its label: #F0664E. Primary text: #E8ECF1. Secondary text and ticks: #8A94A1. Gridlines: #2A313A.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Red Rose throughout. Title 700 30px #E8ECF1, stating the finding with numbers. Eyebrow 12px 600 uppercase, 2.4px letter-spacing, #8A94A1. Subtitle 15px 400 #8A94A1 naming measure, unit and that the scale is logarithmic. Tick labels 13 to 14px #8A94A1 (powers of ten written as "10" with a 10px superscript exponent raised 7px). Threshold label 11.5px 700 uppercase, 1.6px letter-spacing. Series names 14px 700 in series color; secondary lines 12px #8A94A1. Chip text 12.5px 700 in the page color.

Layout:
- 56px margins. Eyebrow at y 50, title at y 92, subtitle at y 120. Plot panel from x 110 to 790, y 158 to 486; the right 150px holds direct labels.
- "Days in storage" right-aligned under the x axis; source line at the bottom left.

Axes and grid:
- Log y axis with a 1px #2A313A gridline at each power of ten and short 6px minor ticks at 2x and 5x on the left edge. No axis lines; the panel edge is the frame.
- X ticks every 2 days, 5px long, labels 22px below.

Marks:
- Line chart: 2.8px lines with round joins, drawn from a dense sampling so curves look smooth, plus hollow markers (r 3.6, page-color fill, 1.8px series stroke) at the measurement times. A 1.6px dashed threshold (7 on, 5 off) crosses the plot with its label just above it in a clear stretch. Where each line crosses the threshold: a solid r 5.5 dot with a 2px page-color ring, a 1px dotted drop line (2 on, 3 off) to the x axis, and a 50 x 20 pill chip (fully rounded) in the series color just above the axis reading the crossing value ("5.2 d").
- Bar chart: horizontal bars, one per group, 22px tall with 3px right-end rounding, colored by temperature, length = days until the threshold; values in 14px 700 at the bar end, and a thin dashed vertical at any target duration in #F0664E.

Labels and annotation:
- Direct labels at the right of each line end: name in bold series color with a second line "Shelf life 5.2 days" in secondary gray. Stagger them so none overlap.

Avoid: legends, glows, gradients, pure black, rainbow palettes, and bright white gridlines.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the crossing chips match the computed crossing of each line with the threshold, the log ticks are exact powers of ten, and right-hand labels never collide.
