Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Shelf Jars" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a row of apothecary jars on a restored pharmacy museum shelf, lit through deep cobalt glass. Gilded, dignified and legible, like the gold-edged labels on old shop rounds.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #12244A cobalt, with a radial glass glow (from #3A5A9A at 35% opacity near the top left to transparent at 55% and #050B1A at 60% opacity at the far corners).
- Bars: #EFE3C2 pale cream, with a 6px white highlight stripe (45% opacity, rounded) 7px inside the left edge.
- Gold: #C9A44C for value labels, label borders, the eyebrow and the shelf edge.
- Label plates: #0A0C12 near-black. Secondary text: #A9B4CC. Gridlines: #243A66.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Cinzel for the title (700, 30px, cream, stating the finding), the eyebrow (600, 12px, 2.6px letter-spacing, gold), and the shelf labels: abbreviation line 11px 600 gold with 1.5px letter-spacing, name line 12px 700 cream.
- Cardo for figures and prose: value labels 20px 700 gold, axis numbers 13px #A9B4CC, subtitle 17px italic #A9B4CC, source 13px italic.

Layout:
- 56px margins; eyebrow, title and subtitle at top left. Axis numbers on the left, plot from about 104 to 896px.
- A gold shelf edge at the baseline, then shelf labels hanging just below it, one per bar. Source bottom left and a small "Values in grams" style unit note bottom right in Cinzel 11px gold.

Axes and grid:
- Four 1px #243A66 dashed (2 5) gridlines, numbers left of the plot. No y-axis line; the shelf edge is the baseline.

Marks:
- Bar chart: 62px cream bars with 5px rounded top corners, sorted by value. Values in gold Cardo 10px above each bar. The shelf edge: a 2px gold line across the full plot plus 16px overhang each side, a 7px band of #0A0C12 at 55% under it and a 0.6px gold line at its lower edge. Each label plate: a 92 x 50px #0A0C12 rectangle (3px radius) with a 1.6px gold border and a 0.6px inner gold rule 4px inside, holding a Latin-style abbreviation over the name.
- Line chart: a 2.5px #EFE3C2 line on the same cobalt ground, with each point drawn as a small jar lid: a 10px cream circle ringed with 1.5px gold, gold Cardo values above the points, and the category plates hung below the gold shelf-edge baseline exactly as for bars.

Avoid: more than cream and gold on the cobalt, gradients on the bars, 3D jars or clip-art bottles, sans-serif type, and labels that overflow their plates.

When you're done, render the chart and check that every name fits inside its plate with margin, the gold values do not touch gridline labels, the shelf edge reads as one continuous gilded ledge, and the title's comparison is true for the data.
