Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Sewing Pattern" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a printed dressmaking pattern sheet unfolded on the table. Thin tan tissue printed in two inks, black and pattern red, with the chart drawn like a pattern piece: a bold cutting line, nested size lines, notches, a grainline and the piece's cutting instructions.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Tissue: #EFE3C8 for the whole canvas.
- Black ink: #1C1C1C for the title, the primary series (the cutting line), notches, axis, piece panel and all ordinary text (subtitle at 78% opacity, tick labels at 75%, source at 70%).
- Pattern red: #C23B2E for the eyebrow and its rule, the secondary series (size lines), their size markers and values, the panel subheading and the sheet code in the footer.
- Faint note text: #8A7C62 (the scale-check measurement).

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Josefin Sans for words: title 700, 28px, uppercase, 1.4px letter-spacing, stating the finding; eyebrow 600 12px uppercase with 2.6px letter-spacing in red, preceded by a 28 x 3 px red bar; subtitle 400 16px sentence case; panel heading "PIECE 4 OF 9" 700 20px with 1.2px letter-spacing; small uppercase labels 600 at 9.5 to 13px with 1.2 to 2px letter-spacing; source 12px.
- IBM Plex Mono for every number and size code: tick labels 12px, week labels ("W1" to "W12") 12px, size codes 11 to 12px 600, end values 14px (600 for the cutting line, 500 for size lines).

Layout:
- 48px side margins. Eyebrow at the top, title about 44px below it, subtitle 28px below that, then a double rule across the sheet: a 1px black line and, 4px under it, a 0.5px black dashed line (6 on, 3 off).
- Plot on the left (about x 92 to 640), a pattern piece panel on the right: a 1px black rectangle about 196 x 330 px holding "PIECE 4 OF 9", a red subheading naming the measure, a small outline scissors icon with "CUT 2 ON FOLD", the line key, a double-headed grainline arrow with "GRAINLINE" set vertically beside it, and a 48px scale-check square with dashed center cross, captioned "SCALE CHECK" and "5 CM".
- Footer: a 0.5px dashed black rule, "Source: ..." at left and a red mono sheet code ("SIZES 8โ€“16 ยท SHEET B") at right.

Texture:
- Tissue grain: an feTurbulence layer (fractalNoise, baseFrequency 0.9 0.6, 1 octave) tinted brown at about 25% effective opacity, so the tissue looks slightly fibrous.
- Fold creases: one horizontal crease across the middle of the sheet (a 16px band: brown #6B5A3A at 12% just above center, white at 45% just below, fading to nothing) and one fainter vertical crease down the middle (12px, 8% brown and 30% white).

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines only: 0.8px black at 22% opacity, dotted 2 on 3 off, extending 8px left of the plot.
- Y labels right-aligned 14px left of the plot; a small uppercase "ORDERS / WEEK" axis title above them.
- A 1.2px black baseline with 6px tick marks under every category and mono labels 24px below.

Marks:
- Line chart: the primary series is the cutting line, a bold 3.2px solid black straight-segment line with a notch at every data point: a filled black triangle with its 9px base centered on the line and its apex 9px outside the line (on the lower side), square to the local direction of the line. Other series are 1.6px red size lines nested around it, each with its own dash (7 on 4 off; 12 on 4 off 2 on 4 off), no markers.
- Bar chart: bars are drawn as pattern pieces: no fill (tissue shows through), a 3.2px solid black outline for the primary series or 1.6px red dashed outlines for other sizes, a black notch triangle cut into the top edge of each bar at its center, and a thin dashed grainline arrow running up the middle of the tallest bar.
- Size markers at the line ends (or bar tops): the size code in a ring (radius 11, tissue fill, 2px black ring for the cutting line, 1.4px red for the others), centered 20px past the last point, with the value in mono 14px starting 38px past it.

Labels and annotation:
- The legend is a pattern line key inside the panel: a 42px line sample in each series' stroke, its mono size code, and "CUTTING LINE" or "SIZE LINE" in small uppercase Josefin Sans.

Avoid: fills under lines, rounded bars, drop shadows, bright colors beyond the two inks, a boxed plot frame, and any third ink.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the notches sit on the outside of the cutting line at every point, the size lines stay distinguishable by dash pattern alone, the creases are faint enough not to read as gridlines, and the title's percentage is arithmetically right.
