Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

  • Medium mustard#CDA746
  • Low blue-gray#6F8499

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Severity Stack" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a security engineering weekly review on a dark slide. Muted, grown-up severity colors instead of traffic lights, a condensed type voice, and mono figures.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #1E1F23 (graphite), also used as the gap between stacked segments.
- Severity fills, desaturated: Critical #9A5189 (plum), High #C46A3C (burnt orange), Medium #CDA746 (mustard), Low #6F8499 (blue-gray).
- Text: #ECE9E4 (primary), #A3A3A8 (secondary), #6E6F76 (tertiary). Gridlines: #303238.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- IBM Plex Sans Condensed: eyebrow 600 at 12px uppercase with 1.8px letter-spacing in #6E6F76; title 700 at 28px in #ECE9E4 stating the finding with numbers; subtitle 400 at 15.5px in #A3A3A8; legend chip labels 600 at 11.5px uppercase with 1px letter-spacing; category labels 500 at 12px uppercase ("WK 27"); the pin label 700 at 11.5px uppercase with 1.4px letter-spacing.
- IBM Plex Mono for figures: totals 500 at 12px in #A3A3A8, axis ticks 11.5px in #6E6F76, in-segment values 600 at 11.5px.

Layout:
- 40px side margins. Eyebrow at y 50, title at y 88, subtitle at y 114.
- A slim legend strip of severity chips at y 134: 22px tall chips with 3px radius, filled with the severity color at 16% opacity and a 1px stroke of the same color, containing a 10px solid square and the uppercase name. Chips 8px apart, ordered critical to low.
- Plot from x 76 to 912, baseline at y 510.

Axes and grid:
- 1px #303238 horizontal gridlines, mono tick labels right-aligned 10px left of the plot, no y-axis line, a 1px #A3A3A8 baseline.

Marks:
- Bar chart: vertical stacked bars, 44px wide in a 70px band, square corners. Stack order from the baseline up: critical, high, medium, low, so the most severe series always sits on a flat baseline. Separate segments with a 2px graphite gap (shorten each upper segment by 2px). Totals centered 8px above each bar in mono. Label the latest critical segment inside in white mono when it is at least 20px tall.
- Line chart: one 2px line per severity in its color with small 3.5px dots, critical drawn thickest (2.8px) and last; totals as a thin 1px #6E6F76 dashed line above, with mono values at the ends. Legend chips stay the same.

Labels and annotation:
- Mark one period with a thin pin: a 1px #ECE9E4 vertical from above the plot down to 22px above that bar's total, a 3px dot at the top, and an uppercase label to its right (for example "PATCH FREEZE, WK 35"). Highlight that period's category label in #ECE9E4.

Avoid: saturated red-amber-green traffic-light colors, rounded bars, gradients, glows, white segment borders and a legend below the chart.

When you're done, render the chart and check that critical sits on the baseline in every bar, the graphite gaps are visible between every segment, totals match the segment sums, and the pin label does not collide with any total.
