Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Severity Bands" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a claims analysis page from a mutual insurer's risk team. Deep teal-black and calm, with a serif headline, jade histogram and a warm sand tail that pulls the eye to where the money is.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #0B1E1E (teal black).
- Body of the distribution: #4E9F8A (muted jade). Heavy tail beyond the threshold: #D9C29A (warm sand).
- Reference rules and flags: #E8E2D0 (flag text in the page color).
- Primary text: #EEF3EF. Secondary text: #8FA8A3. Gridlines and inset border: #1C3432.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- DM Serif Text for the title (32px, #EEF3EF, stating the finding, e.g. "2.7% of claims, 50% of the losses").
- Figtree for everything else: eyebrow 11.5px 600 uppercase with 2px letter-spacing; subtitle 14.5px #8FA8A3; tick labels 11 to 11.5px; bar value labels 11.5px 600 (sand over tail bars); flag labels 10.5px 700 with 0.6px letter-spacing; inset table 9.5px 700 header, 12px rows with 700 tabular values; source 11.5px.

Layout:
- 56px margins. Eyebrow at y 50, title at y 92, subtitle at y 120.
- Plot from x 96 to 900, y 176 to 486. A small inset table (200 x 94, page fill, 1px #1C3432 border) floats in the empty upper right of the plot; a three-line tail annotation sits just right of the threshold in sand.
- Source line at y 574.

Axes and grid:
- Log-spaced x bins labeled at their edges ($1k, $2.5k, $5k ...), 5px tick marks, axis title right-aligned below. Horizontal 1px #1C3432 gridlines with thousands-separated labels. 1px #8FA8A3 baseline.

Marks:
- Bar chart: a histogram with bars spanning each bin edge to edge with 1px gaps on each side (hairline gaps), square corners, jade until the threshold and sand beyond it; tiny counts get at least 1.5px height. Counts labeled 8px above each bar.
- Line chart: a 2.4px jade step line tracing the same bins, switching to sand beyond the threshold, with a 12% fill of the same color beneath it.

Labels and annotation:
- Two vertical 1.2px #E8E2D0 dashed rules (4 on, 3 off) mark the deductible and the limit, each topped by a pennant flag (18px tall, notched right edge, sized to its label) and a short muted explanation under the flag.
- Inset table "SHARE OF INCURRED LOSS": rows below the threshold (jade value), at or above it (sand value), and above the limit (flag color value).

Avoid: bright neon greens, gradients, rounded bars, a legend box, and a linear severity axis.

When you're done, render the chart and check that bins are log spaced, the tail color starts exactly at the threshold edge, inset shares add up, flags aren't clipped, and the title percentages match the data.
