Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Seed Catalog" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a page from an heirloom seed catalog. Cream paper, a humanist serif, fine botanical line drawings in the corners and colors borrowed from the fruit itself.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #F6EFDC (cream).
- Ink: #3A2E22 for the title and notes; #7A6A4F for secondary text, axis labels and the botanical drawings.
- Frame rules: #B9A57E. Gridlines: #E6DAC0.
- Series, in order: #C8412B (tomato red), #C08A12 (golden yellow), #7E3A72 (deep plum), #4F7A2A (leaf green). The gold is below 3:1 on cream, so every series is also named directly.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Alegreya for the title (700, 34px, #3A2E22, stating the finding), series names (700, 16px, in the series color) and the catalog note (italic 14px, with its lead-in "Sowing notes." in bold italic).
- Alegreya Sans for everything else: eyebrow 12px 500 uppercase with 2.4px letter-spacing in #7A6A4F, subtitle italic 16px #7A6A4F, axis labels 13px, axis title italic 13px, series detail lines 12.5px, source 12px.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow, title and subtitle at the top left; a botanical sprig in the top-right corner and a mirrored one in the bottom-right corner.
- The plot and its key sit inside a decorative double frame: a 1px #B9A57E rectangle with a 0.5px rectangle inset 4px, and a small filled diamond (4px half-diagonal) at each inner corner.
- Series key on the right inside the frame: names stacked about 58px apart, each with a one-line detail under it (final value and a milestone, e.g. "94% sprouted · half by day 6").
- Below the frame: the catalog note on one line, then "Source: ...".

Axes and grid:
- Gridlines at quarters of the range, 0.8px #E6DAC0 dotted 2 on 3; the zero line is a solid 1px #7A6A4F baseline. Y labels right-aligned, the top one carrying the unit ("100%").
- X ticks 5px below the baseline every other step, labels 22px below, an italic axis title under them.

Marks:
- Line chart: 2.6px smooth monotone curves with round caps. Each ends in a seed-shaped marker: a 15px teardrop in the series color, rotated -35 degrees, with a 1.5px cream outline and a fine cream seam line. From each marker a 0.9px leader (70% opacity, series color) runs right and then angles to its name in the key.
- Bar chart: slim bars with 2px rounded tops in the series colors, grouped by category with 3px gaps, a seed-shaped marker sitting on top of the tallest bar of each series, and the same named key on the right.

Illustration:
- Botanical sprigs drawn as 1.1px #7A6A4F outlines only, no fill: a gently curving stem, five almond-shaped leaves each with a midrib, and one or two small round fruits hanging on short stalks. About 140px long. Never let them touch the frame or text.

Avoid: fills under the lines, heavy gridlines, drop shadows, a boxed legend, clip-art or colored illustrations, and sans-serif titles.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the series names are spaced evenly and do not collide, each leader lands on the right name, the gold series is still identifiable by its label, and the sprigs sit clear of all text.
