Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Section Hours" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: an orchestra manager's report on black stock. Formal and exacting: a high-contrast Didone headline, a program-style heading rule with the concert dates, muted gray plan versus warm ivory actuals, and a thin copper cap wherever the plan was exceeded.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #0E0E10 (report black).
- Planned or baseline series: #5A5A62 (muted gray).
- Actual series and the title: #EFE6D2 (warm ivory).
- Overrun accent: #C0763B (copper), for the overtime caps, overtime labels and the eyebrow.
- Muted text (subtitle, planned values, ticks, source): #9C978C. Gridlines and footer rule: #2A2A2E.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Bodoni Moda 500 for the title (36px, sentence case, stating the finding); Bodoni Moda italic 400 for the 13.5px folio.
- Barlow for everything else: eyebrow 12px 600 uppercase with 2.8px letter-spacing in copper; the program rule text 13px 500 uppercase with 2.4px letter-spacing in ivory; subtitle 16px; legend 14px 500; y ticks 13px; planned values 13px 500 muted; actual values 14px 700 ivory; overtime labels ("+3") 13px 700 copper; category labels 14px 500 ivory; source 12.5px.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow at y 50, title at y 98.
- Program heading rule at y 128: two 0.6px ivory hairlines (55% opacity) 18px apart across the full width, interrupted in the middle by the centered dates line ("SPRING SERIES · 14 MARCH · 11 APRIL · 9 MAY 2026").
- Subtitle at y 176 with the measure, unit and the totals; legend row at y 206 (14px square swatches, the overtime swatch hatched with a 2px copper top).
- Plot from x 96 to 904, y 246 to 486. Footer rule at y 540.

Axes and grid:
- Y axis with 3 round ticks plus 0, 1px #2A2A2E gridlines, "hours" in italic above the top label. A 1px ivory baseline. No vertical gridlines.

Marks:
- Bar chart: grouped square-cornered columns 34px wide with a 5px gap, planned in #5A5A62, actual in #EFE6D2. The part of an actual column above its planned value is hatched (45 degree ivory stripes 2.6px on a 5px pitch over black) and topped with a 2.5px copper cap; its "+n" label sits 16px above the actual value label. Values sit 8px above each column.
- Line chart: planned as a 2px #5A5A62 dashed line, actual as a 2.5px ivory line; where actual exceeds planned, fill the gap with the same ivory hatch and draw the actual line over it in copper.

Avoid: rounded corners, gradients, glows, bright colors, a second accent, and truncated axes (columns always start at zero).

When you're done, render the chart and check that overtime appears only where actual exceeds planned, each "+n" equals the difference, the totals in the subtitle add up, and the program rule text doesn't touch its hairlines.
