Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Secession" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a Viennese Secession concert hall program, around 1900: black ground, gold leaf and white, geometric square ornament, symmetrical and ceremonial.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Ground: #111111 for the canvas and the dark checker squares.
- Gold: #C9A34A for bars, the square frame, panel rules, laurels and the record's labels.
- White: #FFFFFF for bar borders, light checker squares, the title, values and category labels.
- Muted gold: #8C7A4E for the smallest notes and the source line.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Marcellus 400 for the title (30px white, centered, stating the finding) and for values above the bars (16px white; 20px gold for the record).
- Poiret One uppercase for labels: subtitle 14px gold with 2.4px letter-spacing; venue line 11px muted gold with 4px letter-spacing; motto 15px white with 9px letter-spacing; category labels 15px with 1.5px letter-spacing; notes 11px; source 12px with 3px letter-spacing.

Layout:
- A frame of 6 x 6 px gold squares every 12px, 18px from each canvas edge, and a 1px gold rule inside it at 34px.
- A 4 x 4 checker ornament (6px squares at 7px pitch, gold with white accents) in each inner corner.
- A centered title panel (about 460 x 104 px) drawn with a 1.2px gold rule and a 0.6px inner rule 6px inside, holding the title, the subtitle (measure and unit) and the venue name.
- Each side of the panel is flanked by a stylized laurel: a curved stem of seven small gold diamonds shrinking upward, with alternating white and gold 5px square leaves.
- Beneath the panel, a short motto in widely spaced capitals and a 200 x 1 px gold rule.
- Chart centered underneath with generous side margins; source line centered at the bottom.

Axes and grid:
- No gridlines and no y-axis: every bar carries its value. A 1.2px white baseline; category labels 24px below it.

Marks:
- Bar chart: square-cornered gold bars about 46px wide with a 1px white border, each capped by a checkerboard band two squares tall (8 squares across, alternating white and #111111) with its own 1px white outline; the value sits 10px above the cap. The record bar keeps the same fill but gets a gold value and gold category label. Short muted-gold notes explain outliers.
- Line chart: a 2px gold line with small 8px checkerboard square markers (2 x 2 white and black cells, 1px white outline) at each point, values in white Marcellus above, the record point and label in larger gold.

Avoid: color beyond gold, white and black, gradients, rounded corners, drop shadows, and any gridlines.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the ornament is symmetrical, the frame squares stay evenly spaced, the checker caps line up with each bar's edges, and the thin Poiret One labels remain legible at thumbnail size.
