Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Seat Projection" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a parliamentary forecast briefing on warm cream paper. Editorial serif headline, a small hemicycle of the median outcome, and calm tinted ranges that show uncertainty honestly around one solid median tick.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FBF8F1 (cream).
- Party hues, in order: #B91C1C (crimson), #1D4ED8 (cobalt), #15803D (forest), #D97706 (saffron). Each has a light tint for the wide range (#F3D2D2, #D3DDF7, #D0E8D8, #F6E3C6) and a mid tint for the middle 50% (#E08A8A, #8AA5EC, #86C29B, #EBB36A).
- Ink, majority line and ticks: #1C1917. Secondary text: #78716C. Gridlines and footer rule: #E7E0D2.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- DM Serif Display 400 for the title (36px, two lines, stating the finding, e.g. how far short of the majority the leader falls), the median value labels (22px in the party color) and the seat total in the hemicycle (30px).
- DM Sans for the rest: eyebrow 12px 700 uppercase with 2.4px letter-spacing in #78716C; subtitle 15px #78716C (units, total, what the ranges mean); party names 15px 700 ink; range text under the name 12px #78716C ("62-80 seats" with an en dash); column heads 10px 700 uppercase with 1.6px letter-spacing; axis numbers 12px; majority label 11px 700 with 1.4px letter-spacing; source 12px.

Layout:
- 56px margins. Eyebrow at y 52, two-line title at 98 and 138, subtitle at 170.
- A small hemicycle at the top right centered at (800, 150): five concentric rows of radius 48 to 88 holding one r 3.6 dot per seat, filled in party order from the left end of the arc, with the seat total and "SEATS" in the center.
- Party column on the left: a 14px rounded (3px) color square, the name and its range text. The range chart runs from x 214 to 800; a right column centered at x 860 shows "Majority chance".
- Rows 66px apart. A footer rule at y 552 with the source on the left and the unit on the right.

Axes and grid:
- Vertical 1px #E7E0D2 gridlines at round values (every 20 seats), numbers under the last row.
- The majority threshold as a solid 2px #1C1917 vertical line running through all rows, labelled "MAJORITY 76" right-aligned just left of its top.

Marks:
- Bar chart (ranges): per row a 26px tall bar from the low to the high end in the light tint with 4px radius; over it the middle-50% span in the mid tint (square ends); then the median as a 4px wide solid tick in the full party color, 10px taller than the bar. The median value sits 10px right of the range in serif.
- Line chart: each party as a 2.5px line in its hue with the uncertainty range as a band in its light tint and the middle 50% as a band in the mid tint; the median line on top, a horizontal 2px ink majority line, serif end labels.
- A small key under the chart showing a neutral range, mid span and tick: "80% range, middle 50%, and median projection".

Avoid: gradients, error-bar whiskers, pie or donut charts, heavy borders, and more than one line weight for the majority rule.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the hemicycle holds exactly the seat total with each party's median count, the medians add up to the total, the majority line sits at the right value, and the title's shortfall equals majority minus the leading median.
