Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Sauna Heat" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: inside a lakeside public sauna. Dark smoked wood walls, birch-colored bars spaced like bench slats, one glowing ember bar, and a thermometer standing in for the y-axis.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #221A15 (smoked wood), with faint 2px vertical plank seams in #2A211B every 88px.
- Bars: #E6D6B8 (birch cream) with a 3px #FAF1DF top edge.
- Highlight (the hottest or most important bar, the eyebrow, the thermometer bulb and its fill): #E8622A (ember), with a #FFA06A top edge.
- Title, axis numerals and category labels: #EFE3CC. Secondary text and ordinary value labels: #9C8B78. Gridlines: #3A2E26.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Instrument Serif for the title (48px, #EFE3CC, stating the finding) and the italic footer note (16px, #9C8B78).
- Epilogue for everything else: eyebrow 12px 600 uppercase with 2.6px letter-spacing in ember; subtitle 16px #9C8B78 with measure and unit; axis labels 13px 500 with a degree sign; value labels 13px 500 (16px 700 ember on the highlight); category labels 13px 500 cream (700 ember on the highlight); source 12px.

Layout:
- 64px side margins. Eyebrow at y 64, title at 116, subtitle at 148.
- Thermometer at x 104: a cream 2px outline tube 14px wide with a rounded top, from the baseline up past the top of the scale, and a bulb (outer ring r 15, 2px cream; inner disk r 10 ember) just below the baseline. A 6px ember column (rx 3) rises inside the tube to the highest value. Ticks to the right of the tube: 1.6px x 12px at every 20 degrees, 1px x 6px at every 10. Labels to the left of the tube.
- Plot from x 170 to 900, baseline at y 486, 0 to 100 degrees reaching y 190. Category labels 26px below the baseline. Source bottom left at y 566, italic note bottom right.

Axes and grid:
- 1px #3A2E26 gridlines at the major thermometer ticks only. A 1.2px cream baseline. No other axis line: the thermometer is the axis.

Marks:
- Bar chart: narrow slat bars (28px in a 61px band, so gaps are wider than the bars), rx 2, starting at zero, with the 3px lighter top edge. Value label 10px above each bar.
- Line chart: a 3px birch-cream line with square caps and small square markers (6px) at each point, the hottest point a larger ember square with its label; a very faint cream area (6%) under the line. Keep the thermometer axis and plank seams.

Avoid: flame clip art, glows, gradients on bars, red-orange ramps across all bars (only one ember mark), dense gridlines, bars touching each other.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the thermometer ticks line up exactly with the gridlines, the ember column reaches the highest value, only one mark is ember, and the gaps between bars read like bench slats.
