Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Sashiko" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a piece of deep indigo cotton with the chart hand-stitched onto it in off-white sashiko thread. Calm, handmade and exact: even running stitches, neat gaps, cross stitches at the points, a hemp-leaf stitched corner and one small rust seal.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Cloth: #1C2A4A (deep indigo) for the whole canvas.
- Thread: #EFE9DC for all marks, gridlines and text (subtitle 72%, tick labels 70%, footer 60% opacity).
- Accent: #B5542E (rust) only for the seal, the highlighted point's cross stitch and its annotation leader.
- Stitch shadow: #000000 at 35%, offset 0.8px right and 1.2px down.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Shippori Mincho for the title (600, 30px, stating the finding), the subtitle (400, 16px) and the annotation headline (700, 17px), and for the seal character (700, 26px).
- Zen Kaku Gothic New for small figures: tick labels 13px, month labels 13px (the highlighted one 700 at full opacity), a small "LOTS" axis title 500 11px with 2px letter-spacing, annotation note 13px, footer 12px.

Layout:
- 48px margins. A 42px square rust seal (2px radius) with a 1px thread inner border 3.5px in and a single character centered in thread color, at the top left; the title starts 18px right of it with the subtitle under it.
- Plot below (about x 104 to 884, y 200 to 470), tick labels 22px left of the plot.
- An asanoha (hemp leaf) panel stitched in the upper right corner (about 332 x 150 px): a triangular lattice with 34px sides plus lines from every triangle's centroid to its three corners, all as running stitch (1.3px thread at 55%, 5 on 3.5 off, round caps), masked by a gradient that is solid at the top right and fades to nothing toward the chart.
- Footer: "Source: ..." at left and a small stitch note at right.

Texture:
- Woven cotton: a 4px pattern tile: indigo ground, two 2 x 1.2 px white flecks at 3.5% in a twill offset and a 0.8px vertical black line at 8%.
- Slub: an feTurbulence layer (fractalNoise, baseFrequency 0.012 0.18, 2 octaves) tinted pale blue at 18% opacity for horizontal thread variation.
- A radial vignette darkening the edges to black at 35%.

Axes and grid:
- Gridlines are dotted stitching: 1.2px thread at 30% opacity, 1.5 on 6 off with round caps, extending 10px past the plot. The zero baseline is a stronger running stitch: 1.6px at 60%, 6 on 4 off.
- No axis lines or tick marks.

Marks:
- Line chart: a running stitch along straight segments: 2.6px thread, dash 9 on 6 off, round caps, with the stitch shadow under it. Each point is a cross stitch: two 2.2px strokes forming an X 9px across, with shadow. The highlighted point is a larger rust X (13px across, 2.6px).
- Bar chart: each bar is outlined in running stitch (2.2px, 9 on 6 off) and filled with horizontal running-stitch rows every 6px (1.4px thread at 60%, 6 on 4 off), like a filled sashiko panel; the highlighted bar's outline in rust. A cross stitch sits centered on each bar top.
- Annotation: a short rust running-stitch leader (1.6px, 4 on 3 off) from the highlighted point up and to the right, with the headline in Shippori Mincho and a note line in Zen Kaku Gothic New below it.

Avoid: solid lines, filled areas, gradients on marks, more than one rust element per role, glows, and bright white.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the stitches have visible, even gaps, the cross stitches are centered on the points, the asanoha fades before it meets the data, and the annotation's numbers match the data.
