Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Safelight" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a working log read in a darkroom under the red safelight. Monochrome red on near black, typewriter labels, a thin trace with a soft bloom, and a session timer glowing in the corner. Quiet and focused, never neon.

Colors (use these exact values; everything is one red hue at different strengths):
- Background: #0C0505, with a faint radial wash of #D7263D at 12% opacity from the top right (radius about 90% of the width) fading to transparent, like the lamp.
- Primary red (title, data line, markers, timer digits, key labels): #D7263D.
- Dim red (subtitle, reference lines, secondary labels): #9E1E2E. Label text on markers: #C23142.
- Deep red (eyebrow, axis ticks and numbers, frames, source): #7A1A27.
- Grid red: #331016.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Courier Prime only. Eyebrow 700 12px uppercase with 2.5px letter-spacing in #7A1A27; title 700 23px #D7263D stating the finding with a number; subtitle 400 14px #9E1E2E; axis numbers 400 13px #7A1A27; axis titles and reference labels 700 11 to 12px uppercase with 1.5 to 2px letter-spacing; marker labels 700 13px #C23142 with a 400 11px #9E1E2E detail line under them; notes 400 12px #9E1E2E; timer digits 700 34px #D7263D.

Layout:
- 56px margins. Eyebrow at the top left, title and subtitle under it.
- A timer readout box at the top right (about 160 x 84 px, 4px radius, 1.2px #7A1A27 outline, no fill): a small "SESSION TIMER" label and a big H:MM:SS readout with a soft glow copy behind it (the same text blurred 2.4px at 70% opacity).
- The plot below (about x 96 to 900, y 178 to 500). Source line bottom left and a short count ("9 PRINTS") bottom right, both deep red.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines only, 1px #331016. Y numbers right-aligned 12px left of the plot, one decimal.
- A 1px #7A1A27 baseline with 6px ticks at even intervals and numbers 24px below; the x-axis title right-aligned and letter-spaced under them.
- The target or reference value as a 1.2px #9E1E2E dashed line (7 on, 6 off) across the plot, labelled at the right end just below it ("TARGET 20.0 °C").

Marks:
- Line chart: a 1.8px #D7263D line with straight segments and round joins, over a bloom copy (5px, 45% opacity, Gaussian blur 4). Events are small hollow markers: 4.2px circles filled with the background and a 1.8px red ring, a 1px deep red stem rising 18px above, then the event name and a detail value stacked above the stem. Label the peak in 700 12px uppercase red. Explain sudden changes with a two-line dim red note and a 1px leader.
- Bar chart: thin bars (40% of the band) with a 1.4px #D7263D outline and a #D7263D fill at 18% opacity, a 2px solid red cap on top, values above in 700 13px #C23142, and the reference line dashed across the bars. Highlight one bar with a solid #D7263D fill.

Effects:
- Blur filters use userSpaceOnUse regions covering the whole canvas so the bloom is never clipped.

Avoid: any hue other than red, white or gray text, bright saturated fills, thick lines, heavy glows that look like neon signage, and gridlines brighter than #331016.

When you're done, render the chart and check that everything reads in red only, the deep red labels are still legible, the title clears the timer box, and marker labels do not collide with the line.
