Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Runway Memo" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a founder's plain-text investor update email with one chart dropped into it. Honest, calm and a little urgent: black ink on off-white, one green line and a single coral warning.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FBFAF7 (off-white memo paper) for the whole canvas. No card, no border.
- Ink: #1C1B19 for body text, the title, the zero baseline and the "today" marker.
- Data: #2F6B4F (forest green) for the only data series, its labels and its end dot.
- Danger: #E0694E (coral) for the zero-cash callout, its leader and ring, and the "ZERO CASH" label; #F7DDD4 (pale coral) fills the zero-cash zone.
- Secondary text: #77736B. Hairline rules and gridlines: #E4E0D8.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Newsreader 600 at 30px, -0.3px letter-spacing, ink, for the memo heading, which states the finding in a full sentence. Newsreader italic 400 at 16px for the sign-off.
- Karla for everything else: email header fields 12.5px (field names 700 in #77736B, values 400 ink); greeting 16px ink; one-sentence summary 15px ink; chart caption 12.5px 500 #77736B; axis labels 12px; line labels 13px (700 for the solid-series label, 400 for the projection label); value label 14px 700; callout 13px 700 plus 12.5px 400; "ZERO CASH" 11px 700 with 1.6px letter-spacing; source 12px #77736B.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. An email header block at the top: "From:", "To:" and "Subject:" lines 19px apart with values aligned at x 118, and a sent timestamp right-aligned on the first line. A full-width 1px #E4E0D8 rule under it.
- Then, like the body of an email: a plain greeting line ("Hi all, quick update."), the heading, a one-sentence summary with the key numbers, and a small caption naming the measure, unit and period. Only then the chart (plot roughly x 96 to 896, y 250 to 500).
- Footer: a 1px rule, the "Source: ..." line with the projection assumption on the left, and an italic sign-off ("Thanks, <name>") right-aligned.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal 1px #E4E0D8 gridlines at round values, y labels 12px #77736B right-aligned 12px left of the plot ("$1M"). The zero line is 1.2px ink and its "$0" label is 700 ink.
- No axis lines otherwise. X labels 12px ink every third period with the year on the first label of each year, and a second 11px #77736B row of period numbers ("M1", "M4"...) 16px below.
- A 1px ink dotted (2 on, 3 off) vertical "today" marker at the last actual period, labeled "Today" in 12px 700 ink at its top.

Marks:
- Line chart: actuals as a 3px solid #2F6B4F line with straight segments and round joins; the projection continues from the last actual as a 2.5px dashed line (7 on, 5 off) in the same green. A 5px-radius green dot with a 2px #FBFAF7 ring marks today, labeled with its value. The zone below zero is a flat #F7DDD4 band across the plot. Where the projection crosses zero, draw a 6px-radius #FBFAF7 circle with a 2.5px #E0694E stroke, a 1.2px coral vertical leader up to a right-aligned two-line coral callout ("Cash hits $0" / "early Nov 2026, month 22"). Label the series directly ("Actual", "Projected, $205K/mo burn"); no legend.
- Bar chart: square-cornered #2F6B4F bars about 60% of the band for actuals; projected periods as bars with no fill and a 1.5px dashed #2F6B4F outline. Any bars below zero sit in the #F7DDD4 zone and turn #E0694E. Keep the today marker and the coral callout on the first period at or below zero.

Avoid: dashboards, cards, shadows, gradients, more than one data color, a legend box, bold colors outside the coral warning, and marketing tone. It should read like an email a founder typed.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the dashed segment starts exactly at the last actual point, the zero-crossing date in the callout matches the data, the runway months in the summary sentence are arithmetically right, and the header block, greeting and heading read in that order.
