Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Round Ladder" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the financing history page of a polished founder or investor memo. Warm, confident and old-money: forest green on sand with a brass accent, each step of the climb annotated like a ledger.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #F3EEE6 (warm sand) for the whole canvas.
- Data: #1F4D3A (deep forest green) for every bar and for the value labels and title.
- Accent: #B08D57 (brass) for the eyebrow, the investor pill outlines, the step-up connectors and their multiples, and a 3px cap on the latest bar only.
- Ink: #1B2620 for category names, pill text and the baseline. Secondary text: #6F6A5F. Gridlines and rules: #DDD5C7.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Fraunces 600 for the title (31px, -0.4px letter-spacing, forest green, stating the overall multiple), value labels above bars (22px, 26px for the latest) and category names (17px ink).
- Instrument Sans for everything else: eyebrow 11.5px 600 uppercase with 2.4px letter-spacing in brass; subtitle 15px #6F6A5F; secondary amounts ("raised $9M") 12px #6F6A5F; pill text 11px 500 ink; year under each category 12px #6F6A5F; y labels 12px; step-up multiples 14px 700 brass; source 12px.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow, then title about 42px lower, then subtitle. Plot from x 110 to 904 with the baseline near y 440.
- Under the category names, a "STEP-UP" row (label 10.5px 600 brass, 1.8px letter-spacing, at the left margin) holding the multiple between each adjacent pair of categories.
- A 1px #DDD5C7 rule above a source line that also defines the step-up.

Axes and grid:
- Linear scale from zero (never a log scale on bars). Three or four 1px #DDD5C7 gridlines at round values with 12px #6F6A5F labels right-aligned left of the plot ("$500M", "$1.0B"). A 1.2px ink baseline. No y-axis line, no ticks.

Marks:
- Bar chart: square-cornered #1F4D3A bars about 48% of the band (78px at five bars). Above each bar, stacked bottom to top: an outlined pill (20px tall, fully rounded, #F3EEE6 fill, 1px #B08D57 stroke) naming the lead investor, 8px above it a 12px secondary amount, and above that the Fraunces value label. The latest bar gets a 3px brass cap. Step-up connectors: thin 1.2px brass curved arrows under the axis from one category to the next, broken in the middle for the multiple ("3.8x"), ending in a small solid brass arrowhead.
- Line chart: a 2.5px #1F4D3A line with straight segments and 5px-radius forest dots ringed 2px in #F3EEE6; the same pill, amount and value label stack above each point; the latest point in brass. Keep the brass step-up arcs under the axis.

Avoid: log-scaled bars, gradients, shadows, rounded bar corners, more than one accent color, a legend, and cramped labels (every stack must clear its neighbours).

When you're done, render the chart and check that bars start at zero, each step-up multiple equals the value divided by the previous value, the title's overall multiple is right, and no pill or label touches a gridline label or a neighbouring stack.
