Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Rondel Bars" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: sheets of art glass stood up on a white light table in a glass studio. Clean and bright, the bars glow like translucent jewel glass against a faint diamond lattice of leading.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FFFFFF.
- Bar glass, in this order: #1F4FB5 (cobalt), #B3123A (ruby), #E09A1A (amber), #0F8A5F (emerald), #7B3FA6 (amethyst). Fill each at 84% opacity.
- Each bar's outline and value label use a darker version of its color: #143478, #760C27, #9A6810, #0A5C3F, #522A6F.
- Lattice leads: #EEEAE4. Dotted value lines: #E4E0DA. Baseline and title ink: #23202A. Secondary text: #6F6A74.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Marcellus 36px #23202A for the title, stating the finding.
- Nunito for everything else: eyebrow 12px 800 uppercase, 2.6px letter-spacing, in the first bar color; subtitle 16px #6F6A74 with measure, period and total; y labels 13px 600; value labels 20px 800 in the bar's dark outline color; category names 17px 600 italic #23202A beneath each bar; share lines 13px #6F6A74 under the names; source 12px.

Layout:
- 60px margins, header in the top 135px. Plot from about y 160 to a baseline at y 478, starting at x 108.
- Behind the plot a diamond lattice pattern: tiles 56 wide by 84 tall with both diagonals drawn, 3px #EEEAE4, faded to transparent over the top 25% and the outer 10% on each side so it has no hard edges.

Axes and grid:
- Dotted horizontal value lines (1px #E4E0DA, 2 on 5 off) with labels right-aligned on the left; no y axis line.
- A 1.5px #23202A baseline.

Marks:
- Bar chart: wide bars (about two thirds of the band, 104px at five bars), 4px corner radius. Layers inside each bar: the 84% color fill; a horizontal sheen gradient (transparent at the left edge, white 42% at 12%, white 8% at 30%, clear at 80%, black 12% at the right edge); a radial glow at the top center (white 35% fading out); a few seed bubbles (radius 1.2 to 3.4px, white fill at 16%, 0.8px white stroke at 45%), about one per 40px of height. Then a 2px outline in the dark color inset 1px, and a 1.2px white line at 55% just inside the top edge. Value label 14px above; italic color name 30px below the baseline.
- Line chart: a 5px line in the first glass color at 84% with a 1.2px white highlight 1.5px above it, round joins, and each point as a small round glass rondel: 7px radius disc in the series color at 84% with a 1.5px dark outline and a white 1px arc highlight at the upper left. Additional series use the next glass colors in order, each labeled directly at the line end in italic Nunito.

Avoid: opaque flat fills, heavy black outlines, strong drop shadows, a visible hard-edged lattice rectangle, and more than five hues.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the lattice stays faint behind the bars, each bar reads as translucent glass with its darker outline, bubbles stay inside the bars, and every color name sits centered under its bar in italic.
