Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Risograph" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom SVG or canvas layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a two-color risograph zine. Everything looks printed in spot ink on uncoated paper, including the type.

Colors (use these exact values; there are only two inks):
- Paper: #F3EEE3.
- Ink 1, Riso Blue: #0078BF. All text, axes, gridlines and the first series.
- Ink 2, Fluorescent Pink: #FF48B0. The second series, printed as a halftone.
- Where inks overlap, let them multiply (mix-blend-mode: multiply) so they darken the way real ink does. Don't add a third color.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Title: Rubik Mono One, 44px, uppercase, in blue. Print a second copy of the title in pink at 90% opacity, offset 3px right and 3px down, behind the blue one, as a misregistered plate.
- Everything else: Space Mono. Subtitle 15px, legend 14px, axis labels 13px, category labels 13px bold uppercase, totals 14px bold, footer 11px uppercase with 1px letter-spacing.

Texture (this is what sells the style):
- Halftone: fill the pink series with a pattern of 2.3px-radius pink dots on a 7px grid rotated 15 degrees, over a 28% opacity pink tint.
- Ink spread: roughen the edges of the bars with an SVG feTurbulence (fractalNoise, baseFrequency 0.9) plus feDisplacementMap at scale about 2.
- Misregistration: offset the entire pink plate by about 2.5px right and 1.5px up relative to the blue plate.
- Paper grain: a full-bleed feTurbulence noise layer at low opacity (about 40%) over everything.

Axes and grid:
- Dotted gridlines in blue at 45% opacity (1px dots, 5px gaps, round caps). A solid 2.5px blue baseline. Y labels right-aligned left of the plot.

Marks:
- Bar chart: stacked or grouped bars about 60% of the band width, square corners. Solid blue for the first series, pink halftone for the second. Print the total above each stack.
- Line chart: a 4px solid blue line and a 4px pink line, both roughened with the same displacement filter, with the pink plate offset as above. Fill the area under the pink line with the halftone at 60% opacity.

Legend: small squares (16px) filled with each ink or pattern, with labels, top right in line with the subtitle.

Avoid: gradients, clean vector perfection, black, gray, any third color, and drop shadows.

When you're done, render the chart and zoom in: the halftone should read as dots, the pink plate should sit visibly off-register, and every label must still be legible.
