Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Rig Days" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a drilling superintendent's morning report board. Dark navy, crisp condensed type, plan drawn as hollow outlines and actuals as solid bars inside them, with anything past plan turning red. A cumulative column on the right and a whole-job timeline strip with a "today" line underneath.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #111A2B. Text: #E8EDF4; secondary text: #8894A8. Grid and column divider: #1F2A40.
- Plan: #C9D1DC 1px outline, no fill.
- Actual: #F28C38 solid. Overrun past plan: #F0476A solid, and the same red for positive variance numbers.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Barlow Semi Condensed. Title 700 28px stating the finding. Subtitle 400 16px muted. Legend 500 14px. Column headers 600 11px uppercase with 1.4px letter-spacing, muted. Row labels 500 16px (the in-progress row 700; not-started rows muted). Bar-end labels 600 to 700 14px. Cumulative numbers 600 16px; variance 700 16px. Use a true minus sign (U+2212) for negative values.

Layout:
- 40px margins. Title at y 50, subtitle at y 78, a one-line legend at y 106 (hollow outline swatch, orange swatch, red swatch).
- Rows 40px tall starting at y 150. Row labels at x 40. Bars from x 300 to 720. A 1px #1F2A40 divider at x 760, then two right-aligned columns ending at x 840 (cumulative) and x 920 (variance vs plan).
- A timeline strip near the bottom (y about 494): the plan as consecutive hollow segments (13px tall) with their total labeled at the end, the actual as a 10px orange bar below it from zero to today, 5-unit ticks with labels, and a 1.2px #E8EDF4 vertical "today" line crossing both with an uppercase bold label to its left.
- Source note at y 582.

Axes and grid:
- 1px #1F2A40 verticals every 2 units behind the bars, labels 12px muted under the last row. No horizontal gridlines.

Marks:
- Bar chart: the plan bar is a 20px tall 1px outline. The actual bar is 10px tall, centered inside, orange up to the plan length and red beyond it. Labels 8px past the longer bar: red "+3.5 d" for overruns, pale "−1 d" for under plan, orange "4 of 6 d, in progress" for the live row, whose orange bar ends in a small arrowhead. Not-started rows show only the outline and "8 d planned". All bars start at zero.
- Line chart: plan as a 1.5px #C9D1DC dashed (5 4) line, actual as a 2.5px orange line that turns red wherever it runs above plan (split the segments), with the "today" vertical line and the cumulative/variance columns kept as end labels.

Avoid: gradients, rounded bar ends, glow, fills inside plan outlines, dual axes, green for "good".

When you're done, render the chart and check that the cumulative and variance columns add up, overrun red starts exactly at the plan outline's end, and the today label does not collide with axis labels.
