Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "RGB Histogram" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the histogram panel of a professional photo editing app. Dark neutral grays, a crisp inset panel, a slim toolbar of adjustment values in tabular figures, and translucent channel colors that add up toward white where they overlap. Technical, calm and precise.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #141416. Panel: #1C1C1E with a 10px radius, and a 1px #3A3A3C inset border 6px inside it (6px radius).
- Series: #FF453A (red), #32D74B (green), #0A84FF (blue), each at 72% fill opacity with mix-blend-mode: screen inside an isolated group, so two channels overlapping blend to cyan, magenta or yellow and all three blend to near white.
- Plot well: #111113. Gridlines: #2C2C2E. Borders and toolbar separators: #3A3A3C.
- Text: #F2F2F7 for the title and values, #8E8E93 for labels, #5F5F64 for the axis title. The highlight clipping label: #64B0FF.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Inconsolata only, with font-variant-numeric: tabular-nums on every number. Title 700 28px #F2F2F7 stating the finding; subtitle 400 14px #8E8E93 with measure, unit and binning; toolbar keys 600 12px uppercase with 1.2px letter-spacing in #8E8E93 followed by values in 700 14px #F2F2F7; tick labels 400 12px; legend 400 13px; warning labels 600 to 700 12px uppercase with 1px letter-spacing; source 12px.

Layout:
- Title and subtitle above the panel at a 48px margin. The panel spans x 40 to 920, y 110 to 550.
- Inside the panel: a toolbar row (baseline y 148) of key/value pairs separated by 1px vertical #3A3A3C rules, camera settings right-aligned, and a 1px rule under the toolbar.
- A header row above the plot: clipping warning at each end and the channel legend in the middle (16px rounded 3px swatches with the channel letter in 700 12px dark text, then the channel name).
- The plot well (about x 84 to 876, y 236 to 476), with level labels under it and a letter-spaced axis title below them. Source bottom left, a short note bottom right.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal 1px #2C2C2E gridlines every 0.5 units and vertical ones at the quarter points of the range; tick labels right-aligned 8px left of the well, one decimal. A 1px #3A3A3C outline around the well.
- Level labels at 0, 64, 128, 192 and 255 (end labels aligned to the edges).

Marks:
- Bar chart: dense, gapless bars (one per bin, drawn as crisp-edged rectangles from zero) for each series, all overlaid on the same baseline with the screen blend above. Do not stack them and do not add gaps or outlines.
- Line chart: each series as a 1.8px line in its channel color over a filled area in the same color at 30% opacity, all screen-blended the same way, so overlaps brighten.

Labels and annotation:
- Clipping warnings: a 16 x 16 px triangle pointing outward at each end of the header row. When a channel clips, fill the triangle with that channel's color plus a glow copy (Gaussian blur 3.5 at 80% opacity, userSpaceOnUse region covering the canvas) and label it in #64B0FF with the channel letter and the share; otherwise fill it #48484A with a gray label.

Avoid: opaque fills that hide other channels, gaps between bars, gradients inside the bars, rounded bars, a light theme, and proportional (non-tabular) figures.

When you're done, render the chart and check that overlaps visibly blend toward white, each channel can still be told apart in its own peaks, the clipping percentages match the last bin of the data, and nothing in the toolbar collides.
