Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Retreat Day" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a printed day planner handed out at a quiet countryside retreat. Unhurried and orderly: warm stone paper, soft pill-shaped time blocks, and hairline sunrise and sunset markers.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #EDE8E0 (warm stone).
- Category colors: #B8735A (muted terracotta), #7E98B4 (dove blue), #86A08A (sage), #CDB68C (oat).
- Ink: #3C3632. Secondary text: #857C72. Gridlines and footer rule: #DAD2C6.
- Sun markers: #C48A3E dotted lines, #E0B566 half-sun glyphs, labels in #A36F2C.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Bellefair 400 for the title (34px, #3C3632, sentence case, stating the finding) and the footer motto (15px).
- Figtree for everything else: eyebrow 12px 600 uppercase with 3px letter-spacing in terracotta; subtitle 16px #857C72; row labels 15px 600 in ink; value labels 12px 400 #857C72; axis labels 13px; key labels 13px 500; sun labels 12px 600; source 12px.

Layout:
- 64px side margins; eyebrow at y 58, title at y 104, subtitle at y 134, with a one-line color key right-aligned on the subtitle's baseline (22 x 10 px pills with 5px radius, then the label).
- Row labels left-aligned at x 64; the plot runs from x 232 to x 900 with rows 62px apart starting near y 226.
- A 1px #DAD2C6 footer rule at y 548 with the source at the left and a short Bellefair motto at the right.

Axes and grid:
- No axis lines. 1px #DAD2C6 vertical gridlines at every other tick, stopping just above the tick labels, which sit centered under the plot in 13px #857C72.
- Reference events (sunrise, sunset, a deadline) are 1.2px dotted (2 on, 3 off) vertical lines running the full height of the plot, each topped by a small filled half-circle glyph (r 7) with a label to its right.

Marks:
- Bar chart: floating horizontal range bars 22px tall with fully rounded ends (radius 11), several per row where a row has several windows, colored by category. The range prints just outside each bar's right end ("9:30–11:30", 12px, #857C72) with a 4px stone-colored text halo (paint-order stroke) so it stays readable where it crosses a reference line.
- Line chart: 3px lines with round caps in the category colors, the line ends labeled directly in Figtree 13px 600, and range periods shown as 22px pale pills (the category color at 35% opacity) behind the lines.

Avoid: square-cornered bars, drop shadows, heavy gridlines, a boxed legend, bold saturated colors, and labels inside short bars.

When you're done, render the chart and check that every range label clears the next bar in its row, the reference lines stay behind the bars, the key fits inside the right margin, and any duration in the title matches the data.
