Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Resonance Peak

LightLine

A physics journal figure with error-barred points under a red resonance fit.

  • Background#7A7A7A

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Resonance Peak" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a figure from a physics journal. Precise, quiet and authoritative: white paper, black ink, one red fitted curve, a closed frame with inward ticks and a boxed legend that doubles as the fit-results table.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page and legend box fill: #FFFFFF.
- Ink for data points, error bars, frame, ticks and all primary text: #1A1A1A.
- Fitted curve: #C2352C (signal red), with a 7% opacity fill of the same red between the fit and the background curve.
- Background component (dashed): #7A7A7A.
- Subtitle and source text: #5C5C5C.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Libertinus Serif throughout, weights 400 and 600 plus italic 400. Math symbols (M, Γ, σ, E, χ²/ndf) are always set in italic, units upright. Write subscripts as a smaller baseline-shifted tspan and avoid the radical sign, which the font lacks.
- Title 600 30px stating the finding; subtitle 17px #5C5C5C naming the measure and unit, with the symbols in italic.
- Tick labels 16px; axis labels 18px; legend and fit parameters 15px; source line 14px italic.

Layout:
- Title at x 56, baseline 62; subtitle at baseline 92. Plot frame from x 104 to 880 and y 136 to 500.
- Axis labels sit at the far ends of the axes, physics style: the x label right-aligned under the right end of the x axis ("E [GeV]" with E italic, about 50px below the frame), the y label rotated and aligned to the top of the y axis ("σ [nb]", 52px left of the frame). Units in square brackets.
- A boxed legend (216 x 188 px, 0.9px #1A1A1A border, white fill) in the top-right corner of the plot, 16px inside the frame: three key rows (data, fit, background) 25px apart, a 0.5px divider, then the fit parameters one per line (M = 4268 ± 3 MeV, Γ = 84 ± 6 MeV, σ0 (subscript 0) = 36.0 ± 1.8 nb, χ²/ndf computed from the data).
- Source line at the bottom left, italic, which may add a note on the uncertainties.

Axes and grid:
- No gridlines. A closed 1.2px #1A1A1A frame with inward ticks on all four sides: major ticks 9px, minor ticks 5px (x minor every 0.025 GeV with majors every 0.1; y minor every 2 with majors every 10). Tick labels only on the bottom and left.

Marks:
- Line chart: measured points as filled #1A1A1A circles r 3.4 with 1.1px vertical error bars and 6px caps. The fitted model as a smooth 2.2px #C2352C curve sampled finely (not joined point to point), the background component as a 1.4px #7A7A7A dashed line (6 on, 4 off) beneath it, and the pale red fill between them. Mark the peak with a dotted 0.7px vertical line (1.5 on, 3 off) from the axis to just above the data, labeled with an italic M, and the width with a thin bracket across the curve at half maximum labeled with an italic Γ.
- Bar chart: draw it as a histogram-style figure: square-cornered bars in a light gray outline (1px #1A1A1A, no fill or #FFFFFF fill) touching each other, the measured value as the black point with error bar at each bar center, and any model or reference curve in #C2352C over the bars. Keep the closed frame, inward ticks and boxed legend.

Avoid: gridlines, sans-serif type, colored backgrounds, rounded corners, shadows, and more than one accent color.

When you're done, render the chart and check that every math symbol is italic, the error bars and caps are crisp, the legend box clears every data point, the fit parameters match the data, and ticks point inward on all four sides.
