Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Repertoire Eras" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: an orchestra's season review printed on midnight plum. Rich and editorial: a high-contrast serif headline, four jewel-toned categories stacked in chronological order, and a slim line strip across the tops for a related share.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #1F1426 (midnight plum).
- Categories, oldest to newest from the base: #E2C27A (pale gold), #7C98BF (dusty blue), #B5566E (deep rose), #3CC4B0 (bright teal). The teal is also the eyebrow color.
- Label ink inside segments: #2A1C12 on gold, #141A26 on blue, #FFFFFF on rose, #0E2A26 on teal.
- Main text and the strip line: #F4EEF6. Muted text: #A898B0. Hairlines: #3A2B44.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Playfair Display 600 for the title (33px, sentence case, stating the finding); Playfair Display italic 400 for the 13.5px folio at the bottom right.
- Figtree for everything else: eyebrow 12px 600 uppercase with 2.6px letter-spacing in teal; subtitle 16px muted; segment values 13px 700; strip values 11.5px 600; axis labels 12px; period labels 13.5px 500 muted with the latest period 700 in #F4EEF6; direct labels 13.5px 600; source 12.5px.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Eyebrow at y 50, title at y 96, subtitle at y 126.
- A strip panel from y 162 to 222 on its own 0 to 30% scale, then the stacked columns from y 246 to 494, both sharing the same x positions from x 104 to 790.
- The right margin (x 808 onward) holds direct labels: the strip's name beside its last point, and a 10px square swatch plus category name beside the middle of each segment of the latest column.
- Footer rule at y 540 with the source on the left and the italic folio on the right.

Axes and grid:
- Columns: labels at 0%, 50% and 100% only, no gridlines. Period labels 22px below the base.
- Strip: a 1px #3A2B44 base line, a dotted (2 on, 4 off) line at its top value, and tiny 0 and 30 labels on the left.

Marks:
- Bar chart: 100% stacked columns 44px wide, square corners, with 1.5px plum gaps between segments. Print segment values inside the first and last columns only.
- Strip line: 1.6px #F4EEF6 straight segments with hollow 3.2px dots (plum fill, 1.5px ring) and each value 9px above its dot.
- Line chart: 100% stacked areas in the same four colors with 1.5px plum seams, or for plain lines, 2.5px lines in those colors with direct labels at the right; keep the strip above.

Avoid: gradients, glows, rounded corners, a separate legend box, a second axis on the main chart, and segment labels on every column.

When you're done, render the chart and check that every column sums to 100, the categories stack oldest at the base, the strip values match the data, and the title's multiple is arithmetically true.
