Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Repair Returns" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a refurbishment workshop's quarterly review on a dark olive board. Calm and technical, one bright lime series, a muted tan comparison and the gap between them washed in soft lime.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #1A1D14 (dark olive). Plot panel: #20241A.
- Hero series: #B8E04A (lime). Comparison series: #A8977A (muted tan).
- Gap wash between the two lines: #B8E04A at 13% opacity.
- Ink #EDEFE3. Secondary text #9A9D88. Gridlines #2E3326; zero line #4A5040.
- The eyebrow is lime.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Gloock 400 for the title only: 33px, #EDEFE3, sentence case, stating the finding.
- Space Grotesk for everything else: eyebrow 12px 500 uppercase, 2.4px letter-spacing; subtitle 15px 400 #9A9D88; axis labels 12.5px; year labels 13px 700 #EDEFE3; end labels 15px 700 in the series color with the value 13px 400 #EDEFE3 underneath; annotation label 10.5px 700 uppercase, 1.6px letter-spacing, figure 22px 700 lime; source 12px.

Layout:
- 56px left margin. Eyebrow at y 54, title at y 98, subtitle at y 128.
- Plot from x 104 to 764, y 176 to 486, on a #20241A panel extending 28px beyond the plot on both sides and 14px above it. End labels start 36px right of the plot.
- Source line at y 572, including a one-line definition of any derived metric.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines 1px #2E3326 spanning the panel; the zero line #4A5040. Y labels right-aligned 38px left of the plot, thousands separators.
- Two-tier x labels: period ("Q1") 22px below the baseline, year 20px below that under each first period, with 1px #2E3326 vertical separators between years.

Marks:
- Line chart: straight segments with round joins; lime line 3px, tan line 2.5px. Square markers at every point: 8px lime squares and 7px tan squares, each with a 1.5px #1A1D14 outline. Fill the area between the two lines with the lime wash. Label each line at its end instead of a legend.
- Bar chart: paired vertical bars per period, square-cornered, lime and tan, 2px apart; a lime wash rectangle behind each pair spanning the difference between them; small square value markers are replaced by value labels above each bar.
- Annotation: a box inside the widest part of the gap (#1A1D14 at 82% opacity, 1px lime outline at 55% opacity, 70px tall) with an uppercase label, the key figure in large lime type ("51% to 77%") and the period in small gray text.

Avoid: glows, gradients on lines, round markers, more than one bright color, a legend box.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the annotation box does not cover either line, the derived rate is computed correctly, and the square markers stay crisp at thumbnail size.
