Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Remittance Flows" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a modern macroeconomic data story on near-black. One warm, heavy primary series, one cool, light secondary series on its own axis, and a single boxed note explaining the one event that matters.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #0E0E12 (near-black).
- Primary series: #FB923C (orange), with an area fill that fades from 32% to 2% opacity. Left axis labels in the same orange.
- Secondary series: #C4B5FD (lilac). Right axis labels in lilac.
- Title hairline: a 1.5px horizontal gradient from #8B5CF6 (purple) to #FB923C (orange).
- Ink #F4F2F7, secondary text #9A98A6, gridlines #1F1F27, zero line #3A3A46, note border #4A4A58, event band #FFFFFF at 4% opacity.

Typography (Google Fonts): Lexend throughout.
- Title 600, 29px, ink, stating the finding with a computed figure.
- Subtitle 300, 14px, #9A98A6: place, measure, both units and which axis each uses, period.
- Legend 400 12.5px ink; axis labels 300 11.5px; end label 600 14px orange; note heading 600 10.5px uppercase with 1.4px letter-spacing; note body 300 12px; source 300 11.5px.

Layout:
- 56px margins. Title, then the gradient hairline across the full content width 18px below its baseline, then the subtitle.
- Two stacked panels from x 92 to 850 sharing one year axis, never a right-hand second axis: the primary panel from y 172 to 382, then about 42px of clear space, then a shorter secondary panel from y 424 to 494. Each panel has its own left axis labels in its series color and starts at zero.
- Each panel's title doubles as its legend, 16px above the panel at the 56px margin: a 26 x 4 px rounded orange bar or a 26 x 1.8 px lilac bar, then the measure and unit in 12.5px 500 ink ("Inflows, US$ millions", "Share of GDP, %").
- A boxed note (250 x 62 px, 4px corners, 1px #4A4A58 border, background fill) placed in empty space, joined to the event point by a 1px dotted (2 on, 3 off) elbow leader.

Axes and grid:
- Horizontal gridlines 1px #1F1F27, zero lines #3A3A46 in both panels. No axis lines. Years every five, under the lower panel only.
- A soft vertical band marking the event period, repeated through both panels.

Marks:
- Line chart: primary series as a 4px smooth (monotone) orange line with round caps over its fading area; secondary series in the lower panel as a 1.6px straight lilac line with no area. End points: an r 5 orange dot with a 2px background ring and the value above-left; an r 3.5 lilac dot and a lilac 46 x 19 px value chip with dark text just outside the right edge of the plot.
- Bar chart: primary series as orange bars (3px top corners) with a subtle vertical fade from 100% to 70% opacity; the secondary series stays a thin lilac line with small r 3 dots in its own lower panel.
- Event marker: an open r 5 circle with a 1.5px ink stroke on the event point.

Avoid: more than two series colors, glows, dual axes (two units overlaid on one plot), drop shadows, and a note that covers either line.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the growth figure in the title and the percent drop in the note are arithmetically right, the gradient hairline runs purple to orange left to right, and the note and end labels touch no line.
