Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Rehearsal Call" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a stage manager's weekly report, typed up late at night. Deep charcoal page, typewriter labels, one elegant italic serif headline and three muted, theatrical colors.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #1B1A1D (deep charcoal).
- Series, bottom to top in a stack: #4E8D8C (muted teal), #8E5A8A (plum), #D9A441 (amber). Amber also marks the highlighted period (its label and bracket).
- Primary text: #EDE8DF. Secondary text and baseline: #8F8A84. Gridlines #2E2C31. The limit line is pure #FFFFFF.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Bodoni Moda italic 500 for the headline only: 36px, #EDE8DF, sentence case, stating the finding.
- Courier Prime for everything else: report header 13px 700 with 1px letter-spacing in #8F8A84 ("STAGE MANAGEMENT REPORT No. 8" left, "PROD: <SHOW>" right); subtitle 15px 400 #8F8A84; legend 13px 700 uppercase; axis labels 13px; category labels 13px 700 #EDE8DF; totals under them 12.5px #8F8A84 ("46 h"); in-segment values 12px 700; limit label 12px 700 white; source and sign-off 12px.

Layout:
- 56px side margins. Report header at y 48 with a 0.8px dashed (6 on, 4 off) #8F8A84 rule under it at y 60, like a typed form. Headline at y 108, subtitle at y 136, legend at y 170 (14px square swatches).
- Plot from x 104 to 904, y 200 to 468. Category labels 22px below the baseline and the total per bar 18px below that.
- Footer at y 580: "Source: ..." left and "FILED BY: ASM" right.

Axes and grid:
- 1px #2E2C31 horizontal gridlines every 10 units with right-aligned Courier labels, a small "HRS" unit label above the top tick, and a 1px #8F8A84 baseline. No y-axis line.
- A limit or cap as a 1.4px #FFFFFF dashed line (7 on, 5 off) across the plot, labeled in 12px 700 white uppercase just above its left end.
- A thin 1px amber bracket (5px end ticks) under the totals of the highlighted period, labeled in 11.5px 700 amber caps ("TECH WEEK").

Marks:
- Bar chart: stacked square-cornered bars 54px wide, starting at zero, with 1.5px charcoal gaps between segments. Segments of 8 or more units carry their value centered inside (light text on teal and plum, charcoal text on amber). Totals go under the category labels, not above the bars, so they never collide with the limit line.
- Line chart: one 2.5px line per series in the same three colors with square 6px markers, the limit as the same dashed white line, and the highlighted period marked by the amber bracket under the axis. Label each line at its right end in Courier 12px 700.

Avoid: rounded corners, gradients, glows, bright saturated colors, a sans-serif, and a legend placed inside the plot.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the headline's claim matches the totals, the limit label is clear of every bar, in-segment numbers fit their segments, and the teal and plum stay distinguishable (the gaps and labels carry them for color-blind readers).
