Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Region Volumes" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the results panel of an imaging study. Soft warm paper, calm geometric type, a clear left/right split between losses and gains, and quiet color coding that groups rows by anatomy.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #F5F3F0 (pale warm gray). Zebra rows: #EDEAE5 on every other row. Primary ink: #2A2A2E. Secondary text: #77736D. Gridlines: #DEDAD3.
- Gains (positive values): #E07058 (coral); their value labels in the darker #C0513A. Losses (negative values): #4A7BB7 (blue), value labels in the same blue.
- Group strips and group headers: #8C6BB1 (cortical, violet), #4F9A74 (subcortical, green), #C29A2E (cerebellar, ochre).

Typography (Google Fonts): Poppins for everything.
- Title 600, 24px #2A2A2E, stating the finding. Subtitle 400, 13.5px #77736D with measure, period and interval type.
- Legend 500, 12.5px. Group headers 600, 10.5px uppercase with 1.6px letter-spacing in the group color. Row names 400, 13px. Value labels 600, 12px. Axis labels 400, 12px #77736D.

Layout:
- Title, subtitle and a single-line legend (loss swatch, gain swatch, a small CI glyph) at the top-left, 56px margin; 12px square swatches with 2px corners.
- Rows 21px tall grouped under their group headers with 6px between groups. Row names start at x 96; a 5px-wide vertical strip at x 80 runs the full height of each group in the group color.
- Zero line placed so the longer side (losses here) gets the room; tick labels above the first row.
- Source line at the bottom-left, 11.5px #77736D.

Axes and grid:
- Vertical dotted gridlines (1px #DEDAD3, dash 2 3) at each whole percent; a solid 1.2px #2A2A2E zero line on top of the bars. No x-axis line at the bottom. Signed tick labels (−4%, 0, +2%), using a true minus sign.

Marks:
- Bar chart: diverging horizontal bars 12px thick from zero, blue to the left, coral to the right, square ends. A 1.1px #2A2A2E confidence whisker spans the interval across the bar end with 10px end caps. The signed value label sits 7px beyond the far whisker cap, colored like the bar.
- Line chart: a dot plot per row is the closest analog; for a true time series use 2.5px lines, coral for series ending above zero and blue for those ending below, with a shaded 95% band at 18% opacity in the same color, the zero line as the solid reference, and group color strips on the direct labels.

Avoid: a second color scale, rounded bars, gradients, shadows, heavy gridlines, and legends for the groups (the strips and headers do that job).

When you're done, render the chart and check that every whisker is centered on its bar end, value labels sit outside the whiskers without overlap, group strips align with their rows, and the title's numbers match the data.
