Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Record Sleeve" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: the front of a single's picture sleeve from a design-led indie label. Flat, bold, two-color print: a cream sleeve, a big cobalt block with heavy stacked type, black line work and one hot tangerine accent for the lead item.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Sleeve ground: #F2EAD8 (cream).
- Block: #1F47A8 (cobalt), a solid rectangle filling the left 300px, full height. Text inside it is cream #F2EAD8.
- Lines, markers, rules and main text: #111111.
- Accent: #F06A2A (tangerine), only for the lead series, its label, the short rule above the stacked title and one callout.
- Secondary text: #6F685B. Gridlines: #D8CDB6.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Archivo Black for the stacked title: 40px, -0.5px letter-spacing, cream, uppercase, one or two words per line on a 41px line pitch, left aligned at x 110 inside the block, starting near y 106. The title states the finding (for example SALT / WATER / HELD / NO. 1 / THREE / WEEKS).
- Archivo Black for the vertical band or series name: 58px, 1px letter-spacing, cream at 92% opacity, rotated -90 degrees so it reads bottom to top, baseline at x 84 starting from y 566.
- Archivo for everything else: eyebrow 700 12px uppercase with 3px letter-spacing; subtitle 14px #6F685B; the block's explanatory text 14px cream at 85% opacity on a 20px pitch; axis labels 500 13px #6F685B; direct labels 700 14px; catalog line 700 11px with 2px letter-spacing.

Layout:
- Cobalt block on the left 300px, with a 44 x 6 px tangerine rule at (112, 48) above the stacked title, the explanatory subtitle lower in the block near y 382, and "SIDE A" (700, 11px, 3px letter-spacing) at the bottom.
- The chart on the cream area from x 380 to 812, with the eyebrow ("SINGLES CHART RUN") at (344, 64) and the measure line under it.
- A 1.5px black rule at y 548 from x 344 to 920; beneath it "Source: ..." at left and a catalog number such as "LTD 0217 · 33 RPM · STEREO" at right.

Axes and grid:
- For rankings, invert the y axis so No. 1 is at the top; label the top gridline "No. 1" in 700 black and the others (10, 20, 30, 40) in 500 #6F685B, right-aligned 20px left of the plot.
- Gridlines 1px #D8CDB6 overhanging the plot by 8px at each end. No axis lines. Period labels centered 28px below the plot, with a spaced "WEEK" label under the first one.

Marks:
- Line chart: straight 2.4px black lines with round joins; the lead series 4px tangerine. Round markers r 5 (lead r 6.5) filled with the line color and a 2px cream ring. Distinguish a second black series with a 6 on, 4 off dash and hollow markers (cream fill, 2px black stroke). Missing periods are simply not drawn. Direct labels at the right end (700 14px, tangerine for the lead), nudged at least 18px apart.
- Bar chart: flat square-cornered bars, black, with the lead bar tangerine, 60% of the band width; for rankings, draw bars hanging down from the top so rank 1 is longest. Values in Archivo 700 13px at the bar ends. No rounded corners.

Labels and annotation:
- Label each series' peak ("Peak 6", Archivo 700 13px with a 4px cream halo) near its best point.
- Highlight a run at the top with a 28px tall tangerine pill at 14% opacity behind the markers and a callout above in Archivo 800 12px, 1.5px letter-spacing, tangerine ("3 WEEKS AT NO. 1").

Avoid: gradients, shadows, textures, rounded bars, extra colors beyond cobalt, tangerine and black, and legends boxed away from the lines.

When you're done, render the chart and check that No. 1 is at the top, the stacked title fits inside the cobalt block, end labels don't collide, only the lead series is tangerine, and the title's claim is true for the data.
