Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Receipt Roll" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: an end-of-day report printed on the shop till. A narrow strip of thermal paper on a gray counter, slightly faded monospaced print, dotted rules, a TOTAL line and a barcode. Honest and tactile, not a cartoon.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Counter (canvas): #E4E4E1.
- Receipt paper: #FBF9F4, with a soft drop shadow (0 3px 5px black at 12%) and a faint 5% darkening at the left and right paper edges.
- Print: #2E2C2A (faded black) for items, values, the line and the barcode.
- Secondary print: #8A8680 for address lines, scale labels and footer lines.
- Guide rules inside the chart: #C9C4BC.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Courier Prime for everything.
- Store name: 26px 700 uppercase, 3px letter-spacing, centered.
- Address and register lines: 12px 400 #8A8680, centered.
- Report title: 16px 700 uppercase, 1px letter-spacing, centered; the finding below it in 12.5px uppercase; the measure and unit in 12px #8A8680.
- Line items: 13px 400 (the peak row 700). Column heads 12px 700. TOTAL row 19px 700, the word TOTAL with 2px letter-spacing.

Layout:
- The receipt is a 420px wide strip centered on the canvas, running off the top edge like it is still coming out of the printer and ending about 20px above the bottom in a torn zigzag edge (about 10px teeth, 7px deep).
- 30px inner margins. From the top: store name, address, date/register line, dotted rule, report title, finding, measure, dotted rule, column heads, the chart rows, dotted rule, a summary line (peak and average), TOTAL row, dotted rule, a centered barcode (about 110 x 24px, bars in 1.5px multiples), then "SOURCE: ILLUSTRATIVE DATA" left and a receipt number right in 11px.
- Dotted rules: 1.3px strokes with round caps and a 0.1 on 5 off dash, so they print as dot rows.

Axes and grid:
- The category axis runs DOWN the receipt: one row per category (for time, "08:00", "09:00" ...) left-aligned like line items, 18.5px apart, with the exact value right-aligned in the last column like a price.
- The value axis runs across the middle of the paper, labelled only at 0, the middle and the max in the column-head row ("$0", "$250", "$500"), with faint vertical guides in #C9C4BC dashed 1 on 3 at each round step.

Marks:
- Line chart: the series is drawn vertically down the rows as a dotted thermal trace (2.2px stroke, dash 0.1 on 4.2, round caps) connecting each row's value, with a 17px bold "*" asterisk marker at each point.
- Bar chart: one horizontal bar per row printed as a run of dots or "#" characters from the value origin, same 2.2px dotted stroke, with the value still right-aligned as the price column.

Texture:
- Thermal fade: run all print through a fine speckle mask (fractal noise, base frequency 0.9, one octave, used as an alpha mask of roughly 1.3 minus 0.9 x noise) so strokes and letters lose a few pixels here and there. It must stay fully legible.

Avoid: color of any kind, a second typeface, a chart frame or axis lines, a legend, crisp laser-black print, and a perfectly straight bottom edge.

When you're done, render the chart and check that the TOTAL equals the sum of the rows, the stated share in the finding matches the data, no asterisk touches the row labels or the value column, and the torn edge and barcode stay on the canvas.
