Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Prompt for your coding agent

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Reading Growth" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a friendly school report sent home to families. Warm, soft and reassuring, with big readable type, rounded cards and plain-language notes, but still exact about the numbers.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Page: #FFFAF0 (soft cream). Cards: #FFFFFF with a 1px #EDE3D0 stroke and a soft shadow (0 3px 5px blur, #8A7555 at 10% opacity).
- Series, in order: #4F7CAC (cornflower), #E07A5F (coral), #81B29A (moss). Each has a darker text shade for its labels: #3E6590, #B85A41, #4E806A, and a pale tint for chips and badges: #E3EBF4, #FBE6DF, #E4F0EA.
- Expected-range band: #E6E2DA. Title ink #2D2A26, secondary text #6F6A61, axis labels and footnote #9C958A, gridlines and card dividers #F1ECE2.
- Header chip: #F4EAD5 fill with #8A7555 text and icon.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Andika for the title (700, 27px, #2D2A26, sentence case stating the finding) and card chips (700, 14px, series dark shade).
- Atkinson Hyperlegible for everything else: subtitle 14.5px 400 #6F6A61; header chip 12.5px 700; key 13px; card notes 12px; status labels ("On track", "Needs support") 12px 700 right-aligned, #4E806A or #B85A41; value labels 15px 700 in the series dark shade; axis labels 11.5 to 13px; source 11.5px.

Layout:
- 40px side margins. A 28px fully rounded header chip with a small open-book line icon and the school name, then the title at y 98, the subtitle at y 126 and a small key at y 152.
- Small multiples: one 280 x 358 card per series (18px corner radius, 20px gaps). Each card has a rounded chip with a colored dot and the series name, a status label at top right, a one-line plain-language note below ("Spring median: 2 points below the range"), a thin divider, then the chart.
- All cards share the same y scale so levels compare across cards.

Axes and grid:
- Three light gridlines per card (1px #F1ECE2) with labels on the left in #9C958A. No axis lines. Category labels (Fall, Winter, Spring) centered under each point in 13px #6F6A61.

Marks:
- Line chart: a thick 6px line with round caps and joins in the series color, points as r 7 white circles with a 4px series-colored ring, and the value above each point (below it when the point sits under the expected band).
- Expected range: a #E6E2DA ribbon behind the line spanning the low and high expectation at each window, extended 14px past the first and last points, with softly rounded corners (6px stroke of the same color, round joins).
- Growth badge at the right edge of each card: a 52 x 44 rounded (12px) tile in the series tint with a 3px up-right arrow in the dark shade, and "+18 pts" in 13px 700 below it, computed as last minus first.
- Bar chart: rounded-top bars (8px radius) in the series color, one small multiple per series, with the expected range as a #E6E2DA horizontal band behind the bars and the value in 15px 700 above each bar; the growth badge stays at the right edge.

Avoid: harsh black, saturated primaries, thin hairline data marks, dense gridlines, jargon in notes, square corners on cards, and a single crowded chart with all series overlapping.

When you're done, render the chart and check that each status label and note agrees with the data (last point inside or below the band), the growth numbers equal last minus first, the header chip text fits inside its pill and no value label touches the band edge.
