Chart Prompts

1,337 ways to dress a line or bar chart, 669 light and 668 dark. Open any chart to see it full size and copy a prompt that gives your own chart the same look.

Every chart uses illustrative data. The prompts work with any coding agent and any charting library; they describe colors, type, spacing and marks precisely enough to reproduce each look.

Paste it with your chart's code. It restyles your data to match this chart.

Restyle my chart in the "Reader Ages" style described below. Keep my data, chart type, title meaning and units; change only the presentation. Use the charting library this project already uses (plain SVG if there is none). If the library can't express a detail, draw it in a custom layer instead of dropping it. Measurements assume a 960 x 600 chart; scale them proportionally.

Mood: a children's publisher's audience report on midnight navy. Soft pastel segments, a warm handwritten-feeling rounded typeface, and every share labeled so the chart reads at a glance.

Colors (use these exact values):
- Background: #14213D (midnight navy).
- Segments in order: #F4A261 (apricot) for the youngest band, #7FD1B9 (mint) for the middle band, #B8A1E3 (lilac) for the oldest band.
- Text: #F4F1EA (off-white) for title and row names, #A3ACC2 for secondary text and group labels. Percent labels inside segments in #14213D. Divider #2E3B5C.

Typography (Google Fonts):
- Mali throughout. Title 700 32px off-white, stating the finding. Subtitle 400 15px #A3ACC2. Legend 600 15px. Group labels 700 12px uppercase with 2px letter-spacing in #A3ACC2. Row names 600 17px off-white. Percent labels 700 15px navy, centered in their segments. Source and note 400 12px.

Layout:
- Title baseline y 72 at x 56, subtitle y 104. A compact legend of three soft dots (r 8) above the bars at y 148, starting at the bars' left edge, 150px apart.
- Row names at x 56; bars from x 300 to 900, 40px tall, 16px between rows. Group labels ("PICTURE BOOKS", "CHAPTER BOOKS") sit above their rows.
- Between groups, a thin 1.5px #2E3B5C dotted divider (dasharray 1 6, round caps) across the full width, with about 24px of air on each side.
- Source bottom-left; "Each bar sums to 100%" bottom-right.

Axes and grid:
- No axes, ticks or gridlines: every segment is labeled with its percentage.

Marks:
- Bar chart: 100% stacked horizontal bars. Segments separated by 3px navy gaps. Only the outer ends are rounded (radius 20, a full half-circle): the left end of the first segment and the right end of the last. Inner joins are square. A percent label in every segment; if a segment is narrower than about 40px, nudge its label a few pixels toward the rounded end so it stays inside.
- Line chart: three smooth 3px lines in apricot, mint and lilac with r 5 dots ringed 2px in navy, a percent label at the end of each line in its color, and the same dot legend; horizontal dotted #2E3B5C gridlines at 25% steps, y labels in #A3ACC2.

Avoid: rounded corners on inner segment joins, white text on the pastel segments, a boxed legend, gridlines behind stacked bars, and sorting that breaks the group divider.

When you're done, render the chart and check that every row sums to exactly 100, every segment's label fits inside it, only the outer ends are rounded, and the divider cleanly separates the two groups.
